I just saw Apocalipto .
It was ruff going; ( not that I was ignorant of what the Mayans had actually done ).
I knew, going in, that I was taking my chances.
If I had a more thorough idea of what it was like, I wud have avoided it,
( but its a big financial success, at the boxoffice ).
I did not like The Passion of the Christ,
seeing Jesus getting whipped for half an hour, or worse.
If I had a more thorough idea of what it was like, b4 I saw it,
I wud have avoided it,
( but it was a big financial success, at the boxoffice ).
I REALLY don 't like seeing people being abused.
( I might be able to put up with it, if thay r commies, nazis or politically correct. )
I 've seen his BRAVEHEART,
wherein Gibson 's character, William Wallace
goes thru some ruff times, at the end of the movie.
In that movie,
I got the impression that he was offering admiration
for having the heart to stand up for your own dignity,
and for your support of personal freedom.
I 'm not sure what his point was in this last movie, Apocalipto.
Maybe it was that u shud keep up good and competent home defenses ?
Keep your weapons close at hand, while u sleep ?
Be alert when your watchdog gives the alarm ?
Maybe it was that u shud not be afraid,
rather employ your energy to counterattacking your tormentors ?
Was he saying that aggressively fighting to the death
is a preferable alternative, better than surrender to your enemies ?
NEVER put up the white flag ?
( I found it emotionally painful, when the fugitive Jaguar 's Paw
abandoned weapons, on the ground, of his slain antagonist
and fled the scene, mt handed, with vengeful belligerents in hot pursuit. )
Whatever Gibson 's point was,
I am skeptical that I am going to subject myself
to so much blood, gore n misery in his future movies.
What is Gibson 's cinematic filosofy ?
What is he trying to tell us in these movies ?
Is he right or rong ?
Y so MUCH blood n gore ? just an emotional aberation on his part ?
Thoughts ? Opinions ?
