Resizing in Photoshop

Reply Sat 16 Dec, 2006 08:25 pm
I have pictures that were taken on the highest resolution in my camera.

I am not finding a way to resize them down to an 8x10 with out having to crop OUT some of the picture...

what can I do?

Am I having dèjà vu, or have you asked that question before?

In Photoshop go to Image size and reduce by whatever percentage
or size you want it to be.

possibly.

though the last time i asked, I was using crop and that wasnt right.

But, what is happening is that , I took the pictures on a really high resolution.

So high that I cant get it to fit an 8x10

the pictures were taken on something like 4000+ pixels.

When i change , or lower the pixel amounts, the quality ends up dropping.

when i resize the picture to 8x10, i either have to crop off some of it, or it just doesnt 'look correct' anymore..

What size is the picture now? You have to proportionally resize it,
so it will still look good. Try to resize by percentage, go 50 % smaller
at first and see how it looks.

You may have to crop the picture to get a true 8x10 since most cameras take a 3x4 ratio picture.

In image size, change the image to be 8 x ?. Use the constrain to keep the picture proportional and make sure you are not resampling when you resize. Once you have the picture 8x10.667 then just crop the best way.

My pics are always around 15 million MB (how many pixels thatever might be), RAW-format. Get them easily down to fit 10x15 cm printed photos, but my printer sftware (sic!) usually cuts of a bit.
This doesn't happen when the pics are printed in a professional laboratory (e.g. for poster prints).

Most DSLR's use the 2:3 ratio, compacts the 4:5 ratio. So if the ratio does not fit some cropping will be needed.

When the Croptool is selected set Width to 10 cm (or inches) and Height to 8 cm (or inches). Resolution should be empty, to keep the same as you have. If the photo is in portraitmode just click the arrows between width and height, that exchanges them.

Never just resize the photo, you are throwing away quality then. If the printer has a set maximumsize (in filesize) for photo's just resize to that maximum.
