I'll take your word for that, hamburger, rather than try it myself!

Cooking fish in the dishwasher, Tico! You wouldn't have the recipe for that, would you? Razz

msolga :
if you can get some really good steak , "steak tartare" is really a treat .
of course , if you'd try to make it with hamburger meat ... give it a miss !
in germany there are still restaurants that serve it , but i believe it's not as popular as it used to be .

Dare to ask, msolga, dare to receive! Razz

Dishwasher Fish

Preparation time 10 Min.
Cooking time: 20 min.
Serves: 4

4 fillets of sole, flounder, or salmon
1 lemon, thinly sliced
freshly ground black pepper
2 Tbsp. melted butter
Garnish: lemon and lime wedges and parsley

Place fillets on a large double piece of aluminum foil. Arrange alternate lemon and lime slices on top. Sprinkle with black pepper and pour over melted butter. The aluminum foil should be big enough to wrap over the fish. Close edges and ends tightly. Place in the top basket of the dishwasher. DO NOT ADD SOAP. Close machine. turn on to a full cycle. This really works. This method of cooking keeps the fish nice and moist.

I have only one question, Tico. Why would anyone wish to cook their fish in a dishwasher rather than the usual way?

Laughing Why, thank you, Tico!

Delicious!

If I actually owned a dishwasher, I'd try that today!

Pity them, and pass the donation jar.

hamburger

My father (European, of course!) used to do the raw meat thing (good minced steak with garlic & other goodies, prepared as a sandwich) & he said it was quite delicious.
I couldn't quite come at the idea, myself, though.
Just call me a culinary coward! Laughing

*gasp* No dishwasher, msolga? Well, save your pennies. Until the day that you do get one, you'll just have to cook your fish the conventional, normal, perfectly fine way.

Tico

Believe it or not, my tiny kitchen could not accommodate a dishwasher. The stove would have to go, to fit it in! Sometimes I wonder if I'll fit in! Say nothing of the cat!
Besides, I have slight greeny leanings .... no clothes dryer <gasp> either. Instead I own what's called a Hills Hoist (rotating clothesline), a fabulous invention! But I don't think you could cook a fish on it, though.

Real, steak tartare required a horse, which when ridden all day and all sweaty, would impart a "special" flavor to the meat chunks. I think the recipe goes back to like maybe Genghis Cohen.

I see there are sites for steak tartare with references to the Ukraine.

Me, I like this one -

But check out the recipe, Reyn. (Courtesy of osso's link above)
Those are very healthy ingredients!
Must be better for you than a Maccas!

Yum!

Steak Tartare:

Ingredients:

1/2 pound filet mignon, ground for steak tartare (ask your butcher)
2 tablespoons finely chopped shallots
2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
2 tablespoons finely chopped capers
2 or 3 drops of Tabasco
salt
freshly ground black pepper

Directions:

Mix beef with shallots, parsley, and capers. Place mixture in chilled bowl. Add Tabasco and season with salt and pepper. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve with thin slices of dark bread.

Gad, you folks are making me hungry! I haven't had decent steak Tartare (or even indecent, come to that) in maybe 40 years or more.

I've only had it once or twice, but liked it, and it didn't look anything at all like Reyn's photo. My hub and I (one of these days I'll figure out what to call my ex, something not demeaning and something not possessive) had a late lunch at a bayside restaurant in Tiberon, just north of San Francisco.

The dish was simple and delicious, we scarfed it up.
Next time must have been when we made it with our old friend Harvey, who was a habitue of the primo butcher shop in Beverly Hills - point being, very fresh ingredients kept chilled. Again, if anything, better than that restaurant in Tiberon.

It's probably like Sushi - the primo places use very fresh ingredients and keep them very well iced.

I've no idea what they did back in the days of the Tartars.

By the way, I ran across horse on the menu in Italy, at good restaurants.
I declined, but won't say that as an absolute. I can understand it, if not for me.

I've probably made steak tartare myself too, and don't remember not liking it.

As far as healthy, I think hamburger - unless blasted into very well done, has potential for being unhealthier than uncooked filet mignon. I'd have to research it, but I remember reading that.

NEVER , EVER use hamburger to make steak tartare !
my dad would always buy the best steak and either shave it or grind the meat at home .

does this look a little more appetizing ?
