Indeed. ALthough I only bought reds and pinks like these. Reds draw hummingbirds in like pheromones . They see the trumpet red shape and they go nuts for nectar. ALso the mandevilla is a great nectar plant. We see them all over down in LEwes Del and they are fantastic in mid summer

@farmerman,
A brilliant red, farmer!
Love it!

A similar vivid red to "bottle brushes " (Callistemons).
I have 3 bushes in my backyard & when they're all flowering, the native birds arrive in droves.
That's why I planted them, of course. Smile

@msolga,
I envy you all the different plants that are perennials where you live.

@farmerman,
You must have a few varieties, too, farmer?
Though I guess the weather (ie snow) would be a limiting factor?

I like callistemons a lot, msolga. They grow well in southern california too.

The front yard at max bloom:

Really the Perfumed Garden this year. Imagine Persian lilac, Lily-of-the valley, choke-cherry, honeysuckle,all in bloom,at sundown.
And my terrace project is inching along toward completion. (Click on pic for a view to the right.)

@msolga,
Hi, MsO: It's really in-your-face botanical style; breaking from the lawn isn't for the faint at heart. Neighbors, passers-by, and the postman all compliment us,though. So polite of them...

@neko nomad,
Hi there, neko.

Oh I can imagine!
I've often considered making the transition from (what I humorously call) my "lawn" at the front & back of my little house, but just keeping up with the necessary gardening maintenance that's already needed has put me off.
Anyway, your front garden looks quite spectacular.
A labour of love.
Must be a really good feeling to stand back & think: "All my own work". Smile

@alex240101,
Very purdy! We planted some very young clematis seedlings in the backyard this Spring. I'm hoping I can keep them watered enough in this drought to get them off to a good start.

Neko - good for you for going grassless. I wish more people took that route.

I just picked NINETEEN roma tomatoes, and a couple of regular ones!

I've been getting a few every day, enough for us, and to give a few to others.

Even the ones that are not completely ripe taste so much better than what you get at the store.

They're about a quarter size of roma tomatoes at the market, so like 5 or 6 good size ones.

@chai2,
deep deep envy. My tomatoes are a good three weeks away.

This AM as I was driving I saw an AMIsh ladies garden near Georgetown and she had a few red tomatoes

@farmerman,
My wife and I went to the farmer's market this morning, and I saw these unusual looking donut peaches.

Many of the vendors were selling cherries.

This is our apricot tree in the back yard. They are small but delicious.

oh my CI, those apricots look wonderful.

It's a shame to waste them, since there looks like there's too many to eat before they are overripe.

are you going to make jam, or give them to people?

I bought some fresh figs yesterday, $6.99 a pound. I know, but they're only around a short while.
Whenever I buy them, I think of this older man and his wife, who said they had a couple of fig trees on their property. They said there would be so many that would fall to the ground uneaten, it was a terrible mess. All I can think is $6.99 a pound rotting on the ground.
