crocus appeared about 10 days ago ... and were covered by about 2 cm of snow this morning .
but not to worry , starting to warm up tomorrow - better get ready to start up the dehumidifier and air-conditioner soon Shocked Drunk

seriously , the switch from "cold" to "muggy and hot" can happen quickly .
can't wait for it - want to sit under a tree WITHOUT wearing a parka .

My tulips are coming out, and I've done some weeding. It's looking better, quite promising (but not too many changes from last year)

Pics in a few days, insh'allah.

@McTag,

Some of the tulips are out, others are still a bit shy, and I'm waiting for the new beech hedge to show willing.

we've been under the influence of a large arctic high for about three weeks now - beautiful blue sky - daytime temps 10-15 C - but at night the temperature drops down close to zero .
we really need some warm rain to get things going .
plenty of crocus , snowdrops and squills - but daffodils not ready to open up yet - tulips and poppies have been at the ready for about a month - they are waiting and waiting - for some warm rain .
well , better than snow !

canadian tradition has it that serious gardening work does not start until VICTORIA DAY - and that's about another month !
good old QUEEN VICKY ...

OTTAWA will be awash in tulips at that time - gift of the dutch royal family and the dutch people

Finally I am getting into the yard and dirt. It was toe and fingertip numbing this afternoon (ocean breeze). It was a good year for Norway Maple seedlings - meaning we have a carpet of the little devils to weed out from under bushes and between tender new leaves. Hate them. Only one tree species in the world I hate and they're it.

If I were to start a tree farm, I would NOT be rearing Norway Maples. Grrrr..... good luck with yours.

@littlek,
Norway maple is some of the greatest to form "bridseye or tiger" maple wood. I also like it for firewood. We have several that have grown in a field margin probably since the 1940s and we are cutting them down each year for board feet and firewood. It burns quietly and with good heat.

Good evening. It has been raining for 18 hours but now the sun is out. There has been a tornado watch in effect for a few hours, but it looks like it may be lifted soon.
My idea of a communal garden kind of frittered out. The guy who was supposed to do the tilling never showed up so I was reluctant to run an ad soliciting participants. But my yardboy knew someone with a big tiller and he and some buddies got it done just before we got an inch of rain came. I may revisit the idea of an ad.
I was tardy in placing my order for Burpee seeds but they sent them quickly and I was able to get them into the flats on Wed and Thur of last week (the 15th and 16th). Most of the packets said something like "seedlings emerge in 10 or so days." Not mine! Today is the 20th and all the flats have little critters up. Awesome. Now if I can just be sure I can remember what is in each flat.

@farmerman,
Not the Mexican evening primrose - they plant itself everywhere and are
hard to get rid of (thus the name, I guess).

@CalamityJane,
I haven't seen them spread here, CJ, but you are right, that is a warning that comes along with them.

@dyslexia,
Really? Out here they transplant themselves into everything and you can't
get rid of them. Perhaps your rough climate keeps them under control.

We had great weather here yesterday....sunshine and balmy breezes in the morning, which allowed me to get the grass cut, and rain showers in the afternoon, to bring on the plants. The azaleas are out in flower, and the rhododendrons will be soon.
All that I lacked was a camera to record the paradise that lies all around us here.

@McTag,
This is our second straight day of much needed rain. The water district has already asked us to cut our water usage by 15%, and I had already planted flowers in my front and back yards.
