No, not the popular 70's medical comedy/drama.

I was wondering what your best combo's of mash were.
I had a great mixture of some kind of mash a few years back and I have no idea what was in it.

How about potato and parsnip?

Well, I suppose refried beans are a kind of mash... <shivers at the idea of sauerkraut in with them.. or in with limas>
Well, pasta e fagioli is a thick italian soup, really a mashed bean thing with some pasta tossed in. I've made that several times, sometimes adding some hot italian sausage. But it's really a soup, not a thick mash in a dish, dangerous too. One can eat too much of it. Never have three helpings..

I suppose the american thanksgiving sweet potato concoction with marshmallows (icky poo to me) is a kind of mash. Not that I don't like sweet potatoes, but that I'd like the "mash" to be more savory than sweet.
Can't think of what to put in with them. Hmmm, maybe butter and walnuts.
Then again, maybe not.
Or maybe sauteed diced shallots.

My mother used to make codfish cakes and salmon loaf, both done by mixing canned fish with mashed potatoes. I remember hating the salmon loaf, though I do love salmon in its uncanned form, and liking the codfish cakes.

I forgot about the avocado thing - a friend once mashed good ripe Haas avocadoes with fresh crab meat and some bottled "sherry dressing". That was wonderful...

Not only in Britain, pea mash was quite common in Germany as well ...

... as are purées of fruits, vegetables etc in really good restaurants.

Pureed vegetables and fruits have been popular with chefs here for years too.

I guess I don't really know what Material Girl means by mash..

I have been thinking she meant what do people mash in with potatoes..

Just looked up Bangers and Mash - http://www.fotosearch.com/comp/Corbis/DGT368/TOE0030.jpg

Yep,I meant mash as in mashing up potatoes.

I totally recomend avacado, salmon slices and balsamic vinegar, total heaven, even tho its not a mash.

So, by definition, does a "mash" have to have a potato in it?

Avacado and ripe tomato are good too.

At Thanksgiving dinner, my brother would mash together his mashed potatos, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy and whatever else got in the way.

He wasn't allow to do this when we had company, because the result looked like bloody brains.

I know a guy who eats brains and scrambled eggs together. I thought he was kidding at first.

Maybe I'll suggest he throw in some peas...then he'll think it's health food.

gag...can you imagine eating brains?
