Today's hike was wonderful. We started at dawn and walked for about 4 hours to the summit. A great view. Then clouds drifted in.. a quick weather change.

Fom mountain to sea.
Danon, thanks for posting the pictures. I have been at Cannon Beach- for some reson I always call it Haystack Beach.
I mostly remember the colorful starfish and a wonderful sunset. That was in 79.

A picture for Thanksgiving! Giant pumpkin from Sweden. New European record with 534.1kg.

Danon, a small world indeed.
79 was a wonderful year- from Seatlle to San Francisco, to Yucatan, to Martinique, meeting Hurrican David, and having a baby. Great memories.

It's Monday.

Columbus Day.

Not the first European to see N. America.

Byarny Herfulson (sp) got lost following Eric the Red from Iceland to what I consider the world's biggest real estate scam - GREENLAND - some 500 years before Columbus - and saw a land he referred to as "Vineland". Several years later, Eric's son Leif set sail and actually spent the Winter on the horn of Massachusetts close to S Yarmouth and Hyannis.

Actually, Leif probably wasn't the first either.

Anyway, we all know the E Asians were already here.

-----------

Here is the latest news in the Pumpkin world.......

((WARREN, R.I. - Despite heavy rains that stunted pumpkin growth, a Rhode Island farmer has set what could be a new record for the largest pumpkin in the world.

Ron Wallace's pumpkin weighed 1,502 pounds at Saturday's weigh-off competition, heavier than the current Guinness World Record-holding 1,469-pound pumpkin grown last year by Larry Checkon of Pennsylvania.))

I couldn't find a photo.....

Happy Columbus Day.
Any reason is good to have a party and enjoy life.

The central heating sprang to life this morning.
Chilly fall days have arrived. Not sure if this is a reason to party- maybe a tea party?

Here is a link with a report and a picture of the Giant Pumpkin:

Yeah. That reminds me of my grandmother - who, IMHO, made the very best pumpkin pie in the whole world.......

Since my Patti has slowed - I have been doing things in the kitchen. Lately, I am exercising while cooking...... hehehe...... I bought a pair of L.L. Bean hiking pants and each day I get into them and go to the kitchen - stand in front of the range - and prepare Bearnaise Sauce to go with the roast - - -
Well, they are hiking pants...................hehehe

We are expecting a friend to visit starting this Thursday from Pass Christian, MS. It was a part of the Gulf Coast hit hardest by Katrina. I am planning for breakfast the first day to have Croissants dribbled with Devonshire Sauce and freshly cut fruit with a nice Sumatra/Columbia blend coffee. I will, of course, stand in my L.L. Bean hiking pants while I make the sauce...........Grin...........

Happy Holiday, ehBeth!

ul, tis the season - and a wonderful painting of the Halloween season.

Dan, LL Bean, huh? You are to funny! Laughing

Sending good thoughts to Pattie, also. Smile

Well, today's a wonderful Indian Summer day, leaf turning gold, red, and yellow Autumn colors. Lawns are still green though - and the deer are feasting on clover, alfalfa, and oats. Clem, however, is missing...rutting season and all... Embarrassed...the lil' rascal.
