water softener--need help

we just moved and have a "charger" brand water softener here we have never heard of this brand and i cannot find anything on the internet---we do not know how to use the controls and are using 4 bags of solar salt every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks we rented before and never went thru this much please help what do we need to do to adjust the controls it is just my husband and myself here thank you sooooooo much for your help
