I think soccer is probably the best group participation sport--very democratic as everybody gets a chance at the ball--but damn, it's boring to watch, outdoor soccer, that is. Indoor soccer is fun to watch because there are a lot of goals made, and better than hockey because the ball is easier to follow than the puck.

I agree. The new Premier League Highlights are fun because they edit out everything but the goal shots.

But concentrating on goals, with its obvious sexual connotations of the misogynistic sort, undervalues defensive play. It skews appreciation of the game. The defence is constantly shown being penetrated.
