Looking for help on a Rainsoft AQC 50 Amazon Gold water softener.
Our softener wasn't making soft water or using salt, so I added a few gallons to the salt tank, and that solved the problem for a while.
Then we had a Rainsoft repair man come check it out to see if anything was broken, or if it was just a glitch.
After he tried selling us a new system because he insisted ours was too small for us (2 people, 800 sq ft house, 30 grains water hardness, system programmed for 3 persons/water users) he reluctantly 'fixed' ours.
The invoice says the following were replaced:
Injector
Chuck ball
O-ring
I have my doubts that he actually did anything because since he left our water has been very hard, and it only took him about 4 minutes to change that stuff and leave.
Bottom line:
When I regenerate the softener it seems to do all the cycles, it puts water in the salt tank but never takes any water out of the salt bin.
Now the salt bin tank is filled with water and our water is still very hard.
What do I check/fix in the softener to allow the softener to draw water from the salt tank?
Any help is appreciated.
Do you have an AQ with a Tri-Guard or do you have a Gold Series.
Please post a picture of the control valve.
Thanks ~
I'll take a picture and post it tomorrow.
can I email pictures to you? I don't know how to post them.

That is a link to two pics of the softener.
If you can help me I'd appreciate it.
Or if you need anything else let me know.
Bastardized Fleck
OK, that is a bastardized Fleck 5600 valve made for RainSoft.
The first thing I would check is the brine system.
By pass the system.
Follow the brine line from the salt tank back to the valve.
Remove the line by un screwing the cap. Gently pull the line free.
Now you want to remove the flow restrictor fitting from the valve.
You will find a doughnut gasket inside of this fitting held in place by
a white plastic keeper. Rinse and make sure there in no obstruction.
Slowly crack open the inlet side of the by pass and alow water to exit
the valve. This should flush any debri/resin from the port.
Close the by pass valve and carefully reassemble everting.
Now you want to remove rinse and reinstall the brine controller
in the salt tank. Once this is done put the system back in service
and see what happens.
HTH ~
I will try that tonight and let you know what happened.
Thanks for your help so far.
As of today the water in our house is soft and the softener seems to be functioning.
Thank you.
A few questions though.
I cleaned out all the things you mentioned, and also cleaned out the white plastic screen/trap in the injector. Flushed both and they seemed to be in good working order.
Then I tested it and still no suction from the tank, it would fill the tank but not draw from it.
So I moved to the salt bin. I cleaned out the screen in the salt tank hose of the brine controller.
Then I found the issue.
The brine controller does not draw saltwater if the white float is floating all the way up (it closes some valve type of situation on the bottom of the apparatus). It will allow water to flow out of it filling the tank until the float goes all the way up, but once all the way up brine can not be taken into the brine controller.
To make it work I adjusted the float, two black rubber stoppers on the plastic guide and moved the white plastic "Y" looking piece to sit on top of the top rubber stop. This allows the brine to be taken from the tank even when the float is all the way up.
It works for now, but should I do something different?

Yep, that's the brine controller I spoke of.
It sounds like you are good to go, just keep an eye on it.
Thanks for your help!
Now I don't hate our water softener so much. I always thought it was an over priced peice of crap, but since its working again its back to an expensive appliance that lurks in the basement.
@H2O MAN,
What to do next if when opening the bypass inlet valve to flush the valve out nothing comes out? I can manually depress the injector and get pressurized flow, but not using the inlet bypass.
Thanks
