How do I keep my house cool without losing my view?

I just bought beautiful furniture for my living room. I am very worried about the sun damaging the furniture, so I have been keeping my blinds shut. I need a way to keep my windows open and keep my view, without damaging my new furniture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Put an awning or overhead trellis structure over the window (on the outside, natch), or plant a shade tree.

You can also buy solar screening.

There is a technical term for it, I am sure.. but what it is I do not know.

It is a darker screen for your windows that blocks out ALOT of the heat, and some of the UV rays .

You can not see in it too well from the outside.. sort of like a tint.

But from inside, you can see out freely..

Your energy company should be able to tell you where to get those for very cheap..
