Okay, so I'd like to rant about lousy weather here, plus it's scientific causes. We all know about El Niño (unseasonably warm weather) and La Niña (unseasonably cool weather) and global warming, which may or may not be real.

Plus we here in Boston are experiencing El Stinko, which is shorthand for it rains every day and is colder than cold even though it's almost June. And, it's currently pouring, with dabs of thunder and lightning (I may have to ditch the online connection soon).

So tell me - how is it by you? Cold? Hot? Wet? Dry? Cows flying by on the wings of a twister? Fish falling from the sky? Earth shaking even if your one and only isn't nearby?

Do tell!

I live in LA and this winter has been very wet. It has rained more this year than probably the last five years combined. Last year it only rained nine times, but this year was probably more than double, I lost count and its only counting winter, it could still rain. So I think we are caught up a little on the drought.

@Krumple,
We live in Silicon Valley, and our reservoirs are at the highest level in years, but the county water district still wants us to conserve water.

California water is so predatory. First they said over usage will tac on a fine "fee" so people cut back worried about the fine. Then the water company complained they were not collecting enough revenue so they raised the rates for everyone.

So people were forced essentially to all pay the fine. Criminal if you ask me.

Looks like 6-12" are coming here. It is already snowing, and has been for over an hour.

NECN (New England Cable Network) says they think Boston will get about 8-9" although some of that depends on how a separate storm tracks. We will then get a slight breather until Wednesday, they think. They also estimate 1" for Long Island, about 2-3" for southern Connecticut, and then maybe a foot in Vermont and New Hampshire and about 20" for coastal Maine. Meanwhile, in Oklahoma, it was 100 degrees F.

We easily have a good foot on the ground already, from the big storm a few days and a small Alberta Clipper. I don't think I will be leaving the house any time soon.

Its been raining in LA a lot but the government keeps running their drought commercials. People were talking about suing for false advertisement. Things are actually green, places that are usually brown dirt are green. Yet the government keeps wanting to make you feel bad about water usage. I understand things don't fix just because it rained but I'm talking unusual rain for southern California. Why not give the people a break even if you kick back in in May but seriously it becomes nagging to not acknowledge this year started off better as far as water goes.

We got 6 -8" of snow Friday. About 8- 10" earlier today. I was one of the only people at the pool this afternoon. People who drive in didn't even try to get there. Only the few of us who walk there made it. 4 lifeguards with 1 - 3 swimmers. Nice to have such a lovely private facility Smile

The little dog and her best dogfriend Heidi had a great romp this afternoon. Heidi is a husky and really loves the snow. Bella is learning to appreciate the wonders of leaping through snow that is a foot over her head in spots. Leap LEAP leap LEAP get giddy!

All we got was sleet and then cold rain as temps hovered barely above freezing. Now some wet flakes are joining in. Basically it's a damp, wet, miserable mess.

Freezing rain right now. I put out the trash but I doubt they will take it. Boston Public Schools are closed tomorrow. Currently, the MBTA says they'll be running but will be clearing snow all night long. I hope those folks are paid well; it's miserable out there and I was just out for about 15 minutes to get the trash out and do another swipe of the walkway.

On the upside ... I finally wore the Sorels I brought out in November. They're a rather lovely raspberry colour so I was quite looking forward to wearing them Smile

@ehBeth,
I woke up this morning and saw snow on the Petroglyphs and snow in my yard.
Heh, the yard looks better with snow on it, it being time for me to get rid of some weeds again.

It doesn't snow on this side of the city all that often, so I take it as a beautiful treat rather than a problem to shovel.

Spent the morning digging out. The snow wall at the end of the driveway
was a mass of slush. Oof!

The Petroglyphs are green again, and will be warmer tomorrow, so that was short and sweet snow.

The birds already think that it's spring: the started singing a couple of days ago.

And in Karlsruhe, the first public open air swimming pool opened today (air temperature 8°C, water temperature 27°C)

@realjohnboy,
rib, Many parts in our area are suffering from too much rain. We're lucky because our home sits higher than the surrounding area, and water drains very well even during heavy rains. We didn't know that when we bought our home in the mid-seventies.
BTW, how have you been? Except for my kidney shutting down on me a few years ago, I'm doing pretty well. It's working at about 36%. It's a miracle that it recovered that much. My nephew, a critical care doc, said he's never heard of anyone recovering kidney function like mine. Most go on dialysis for the rest of their life.
My wife and I are joining my sister and her husband in Hawaii next month for 10 days to warm up our bones. We stay at my nephew's condo a few blocks from Waikiki Beach.
