Aluminum & Steel Corrosian?

I have a large rectangular cement holding tank for water. On the top there is a removable lift out cement panel about 2´x 3´ to allow entrance for cleaning. It also has to be lifted up to check the water level. It´s extremely heavy and I´m thinking of replacing it by welding up a steel angle iron frame and then bolting in an eigth inch aluminum sheet. The frame will be painted. Will the aluminum, being over water continuously corrode and drop harmful elements into the water or will the steel and aluminum together produce a harmful corrosion? The tank houses drinking water though of course the water is passed through a good filtering system in the house before being consumed.

Yep, you need expert advice, all right. Still, I think aluminum developes a surface corrosion that ends up protecting the core, while steel can go ahead and rust all the way through. I seem to recall that pure aluminum resists corrosion very well. Aircraft sheet metal is usually something like the alloy 2404 or something, with a thin sheath of pure aluminum rolled into the surface. Remember, though, that pure aluminum doesn't have a lot of structural strength.
