What sorts of fluids do you drink to keep a chill on your soul, during hot summer days?
ummm...how's this?
mango magarita with rim coated with sugar (not salt)
lemonade
pink lemonade
lemonade with gin
Coffee. Hot. (Works for me.)
Mostly water, or mineral water,
but watermelon and lime juice (home made) is very refreshing too.
One can make watermelon limeade with alcohol too, but I prefer it without
Watermelon Limeade
8 cups chopped seedless watermelon (about 6 pounds)
cup 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (about 4)
2 to 4 tablespoons tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup vodka (optional)
Ice cubes, for serving
Fresh mint leaves, for serving
1. Working in batches, purée watermelon in a blender with lime juice until smooth. Add 2 tablespoons sugar, and blend to combine. Taste, adding more sugar if necessary. Transfer to a pitcher. Stir in vodka, if using. Cover, and chill for up to 2 hours. Before serving, stir well, and serve over ice, garnished with mint.

This sound like something I've got to try. Thanks Jane.
They stock some canned juices here in New Mexico that I haven't tried before. I'm not much of a canned juice or soft drink person, but once in a while I'll try something new. So, I bought a can of Jumex, a papaya pineapple nectar. It has a fair amount of sugar, but then I only used about a fourth of the can or less, and added Perrier bottled water. Quite refreshing.
That was yesterday, today's another day, and I just poured a bit of bourbon, another fourth of the can of papaya pinapple juice, and a whole bunch of ice cubes. Less good for you than yesterday's version, but also tasty.
Ice cold Leffe beer, poured into a glass that has just been taken out of the freezer.
My Gran used to make a wicked Lemonade, but passed over before telling anyone the recipe. So,when we get a hot summers day over here,i'ts usually a Pimms,a Robinsons fruit squash or a very cold Californian Rose.
