Rae,
...I agree on Ray's version of You don't know me. I also like his version of "Oh What A Beautiful Morning", best. (Let's face it, he doesn't just cover songs, he takes them over! )

I'm with you, Booman!

Letty asked me earlier about the song.....

My absolute favourite line in it is ~

'Oh, you don't know the one
Who dreams of you at night......'

That should be a comforting thought for everyone to take to sleep with them.

I concur on Ray Charles: many of his records are on my list of finest recordings in history.

Here's some info on You Don't Me (words and music by Cindy Walker and Eddy Arnold )(1956). It was introduced and recorded by Eddy Arnold. Jerry Vale had a top 20 record on the pop charts. It was then recorded (1960) by Ray Charles. Elvis and Mickey Gilley, among others, also had hit recordings.

My dedication to A2K members:

At words poetic, I'm so pathetic
That I always have found it best,
Instead of getting 'em off my chest,
To let 'em rest unexpressed.
I hate parading my serenading
As I'll probably miss a bar
But if this ditty is not so pretty,
At least it'll tell you how great you are.

You're the top! You're the Colosseum
You're the top! You're the Louvre Museum,
You're a melody from a symphony by Strauss,
You're a Bendel bonnet, a Shakepeare sonnet,
You're Mickey Mouse.
You're the Nile. You're the Tower of Pisa,
You're the smile on the Mona Lisa.
I'm a worthless check, a total wreck, a flop,
But if, Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

You're the top! You're Mahatma Gandhi.
You're the top! You're Napolean brandy.
You're the purple light of a summer night in Spain,
You're the National Gallery, you're Brando's salary,
You're cellophane.
You're sublime, you're a turkey dinner.
You're the time of the Derby winner.
I'm a toy balloon that is fated soon to pop,
But if,Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

You're the top! You're an Arrow collar.
You're the top! You're a Coolidge dollar.
You're the nimble tread of the feet of Fred Astaire,
You're an O'Neill drama, You're Whistler's mama,
You're Camembert.
You're a rose, you're Inferno's Dante,
You're the nose of the great Durante.
I'm just in the way, as the French would say
"De trop,"
But if, Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top.

You're the top!. You're a dance in Bali,
You're the top!. You're a hot tamale.
You're an angel, you're simply too, too, too diveen
You're a botticelli, You're Keats, You're Shelley,
You're Ovaltine.
But if, baby, I'm the bottom
You're the top!

Embarrassed I didn't know I'd take up so much room, but there I've said it and I'm glad.

Speaking of the Right Reverend,
...I'm now watching a birthday tribute to Willie Nelson. a few minutes ago I saw a performance I called the "3 legends". Leon Russell,Willie Nelson, and Ray Charles, together doing "A song For You". It was Leon's song, it was Willie's night, but when Ray started singing, that's when the house came down. Willie stared, with a dead serious look of reverence and slowly his eyes watered, and a tear streamed down his face.... There's Legends, and there's LEGENDS!

Well...I suppose I should dedicate this one to dlowan, but only because it is the theme from Watership Down....

Bright Eyes

First performed by Art Garfunkel
Written and produced by Mike Batt

Is it a kind of dream,
Floating out on the tide,
Following the river of death downstream?
Oh, is it a dream?

There's a fog along the horizon,
A strange glow in the sky,
And nobody seems to know where you go,
And what does it mean?
Oh, is it a dream?

Bright eyes,
Burning like fire.
Bright eyes,
How can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes.

Is it a kind of shadow,
Reaching into the night,
Wandering over the hills unseen,
Or is it a dream?

There's a high wind in the trees,
A cold sound in the air,
And nobody ever knows when you go,
And where do you start,
Oh, oh, into the dark.

Bright eyes,
burning like fire.
Bright eyes,
how can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
bright eyes.

Bright eyes,
burning like fire.
Bright eyes,
how can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes.

Booman: During the performance of Leon Russell's song, Willie's expression bared his soul, didn't it? I was hoping that Ray Charles and Willie would perform "Seven Spanish Angels". I have their recording of that song on CD and they are great together.

"You're the Top" is from the Cole Porter Broadway show, "Anything Goes" introduced by Ethel Merman on Broadway. Cary Grant sang it in the 1946 movie version, Night and Day, (the Cole Porter story) and Bing Crosby later sang it in the movie version of "Anything Goes". Burt Reynolds sang it in "At Long Last Love". Ella Fitzgerald also has a recording. I thought Fred Astaire did it, too, but it doesn' t appear that way.

Gorsh, yawl. Great tunes here. I luvs Leon Russell and here's one of my favorites dedicated to whomever on A2K whose hand fits the glove.

Are we really happy with this lonely game we play
Looking for words to say
Searching but not finding understanding anyway
We're lost in this masquerade

Both afraid to say we're just too far away
From being close together from the start
We tried to talk it over but the words got in the way
We're lost inside this lonely game we play

Thoughts of leaving disappear every time I see your eyes
No matter how hard I try
To understand the reason that we carry on this way
We're lost in a masquerade

We could just start over but it's oh so hard to do
When you're lost in a masquerade

I know. I'm nearly blind without my glasses. If I only had my glasses I could find them. Reminds me of the story when a woman asked to have If you can read this stitched on her panties. What script would you like? Braille.
