Mercedes 450SLC - Worth what?

My parents have a 1979 Mercedes Benz 450SLC (four passenger coupe), in immaculate condition, with only 55K miles. It has camel colored leather seats and all original equipment, even the Becker Mexico radio. It has always been garaged and never exposed to snow or salt.

kbb.com doesn't go back this far. I did check used car listings, but couldn't find anything quite like it.

Could the auto experts here at A2K possibly come up with a price estimate?

I'm guessing $15-$20K.

Thanks! Here's a small pic of a similar car:

Your link doesn't work outsite that TDI-club.

To give you an idea what it would cost here:

67.779 km ( 42.116 miles) = 24.800 € ($ 31,355), in "oldtimer collector condition"

I'm not sure what you mean that my link doesn't work. The pic? It shows up for me.

If you know anyone willing to pay $35K for that car, sign us up. That's about what it cost brand new.

BTW, top speed is around 140MPH. I tested it myself.

Go on Ebay, and do a search for 78-80 SLC's. Click "completed items" for the last seven days and see if any have sold within the last week.

Forget book values...worthless on a car like that.

Look for a Mercedes forum that specializes in older models. Just post a thread asking what it's roughly worth.

Sorry if the pic doesn't show up. For whatever reason, I can see it.

Slap - that's what I figured, I'll check the Mercedes boards. Just wanted to give the A2K'ers a chance.

wishing I had the early t bird (apparently previously owned by June Allyson, but even if not) that my parents wouldn't let me buy...

I have, I suppose, a similiar issue with my '89 Porsche 911 Carrara. The last year of the original 911 body . I put a new engine in it 2 years ago which has about 2,000 miles on it. There is no way I can determine it's $ value other than finding someone who wants it and makes an offer. I would only guess a figure of around $25,000.

Do the Ebay trick. I don't think the coupes bring that kind of money. A friend of mine had an absolutely pristine '89 convertible with a little over 70K, I think he got around that for it last year, maybe a little more. He only paid something like $21K for it, wholesale. Putting a new engine in it doesn't technically bring the value up, but you obviously may have an easier time selling it.
