This is the best band eVer!!! I love their music and vocals, and the band members themselves.

I am NOT too old, gvapid, thank you very much!

I bought their first cd.....even though I only liked one song out of the bunch. Cool band ~ I like'em. They have a lot of potential.

Heh heh, I am not too old either, just not my cup of tea (I was gonna say I think they suck, but I am old ENOUGH to be somewhat polite)...post some of their lyrics here, whatever you think is best, maybe you will get some comments from the 'old' people. I would like to see some, and I think others would too.

Thing is, the wife used to work in the music biz, and we heard a lot of bands...I am thrilled that Linkin Park is doing well, but perhaps I am a little jaded, sounds to me like the same old thing rehashed. No offense intended either mate.

I'm over 50 - like Linkin Park. My youngest son's fav band at present, although he is really into Three Doors Down since seeing them last week. I like old NIN and Nirvana better than Linkin Park, but perhaps that dates me? Ha ha! Also, listened to Mechanical Animals on a road trip last week - now THAT really does date me again, right?

LINKIN PARK LYRICS:

A Place For My Head

I watch how the
Moon sits in the sky / in the dark night
Shining with the light from the sun
The sun doesn't give / light to the moon assuming
The moon's going to owe it one
It makes me think of how you act to me / You do
Favors and then rapidly / You just
Turn around and start asking me / about
Things you want back from me
I'm sick of the tension / sick of the hunger
Sick of you acting like I owe you this
Find another place / to feed your greed
While I find a place to rest
I want to be in another place
I hate when you say you don't understand
(You'll see it's not meant to be)
I want to be in the energy, not with the enemy
A place for my head
Maybe someday I'll be just like you / and
Step on people like you do and / Run
Away the people I thought I knew
I remember back then who you were
You used to be calm / used to be strong
Used to be generous / but you should've known / That you'd
Wear out your welcome / now you see
How quiet it is / all alone / I'm so
Sick of the tension / sick of the hunger
Sick of you acting like I owe you this
Find another place / to feed your greed
While / I find a place to rest / I'm so
Sick of the tension / sick of the hunger
Sick of you acting like I owe you this
Find another place / to feed your greed
While / I find a place to rest
I want to be in another place
I hate when you say you don't understand
(You'll see it's not meant to be)
I want to be in the energy, not with the enemy
A place for my head

You try to take the best of me
Go away
You try to take the best of me
Go away
You try to take the best of me
Go away
You try to take the best of me
Go away
You try to take the best of me
Go away
You try to take the best of me
Go away
You try to take the best of me
Go away
You try to take the best of me
Go away

I want to be in another place
I hate when you say you don't understand
(You'll see it's not meant to be)
I want to be in the energy, not with the enemy
A place for my head

Shut...up

I'm so sick of the tension / sick of the hunger
Sick of you acting like I owe you this
Find another place / to feed your greed
While I find a place to rest

I'm so sick of the tension / sick of the hunger
Sick of you acting like I owe you this
Find another place / to feed your greed
While I find a place to rest

Cool gvapid...are you into 'Disturbed?' A buddy of mine recently sent me some MP3's.

cobalt, NIN....we are fans here, Mrs. cav and I. What did you think of 'The Fragile?' Nobody bought it, but I thought the production and concept were masterful.

I'm not much of a Distured fan. My taste in music is very ecclectic (sorry a/b spelling). I listen to Enya, Sade, Nas, and even Dixie Chicks.

I'm 280 in dog years and I like Linkin Park. I have two daughters, one hip hopper and the other a rocker. I can't stand the vapid hip hop stuff, but enjoy the continuing growth of R&R. I did have to take the Sum 41 "Does this look infected" CD away from my 10-year old after I noticed the Explicit Content label and actually read the lyrics. A sample:

You look like ass
You smell like ****
So why are you such a dick?
You walk around like you're the tits
You always make me sick
Bound for agony
Your life's catastrophe

Your an asshole
Your an asshole
Your an asshole
Your an asshole
You make me sick

Lovely eh? Actually, they sing it so fast you can't tell what they are saying unless you read the liner. But still...they are a tight band with a unique style that throws it all in the garbage with bad language.

You can't understand how much I hate when great artists mess up their work with cursing. I liked Sum 41's first few songs.

I take it you're 40.

Papa Roach for example:I think the song was of insects and angels
It started out sooooo nice, the rhythm etc..."There's no money, there's no possestions, only obsessions, I don't need that ****' (I don't mind this word so much but I cant bring myself to say it, the closest I'll get is "crap"). Then during the end of the song, the chorus changes from "take your money to fu*@ your money.

Rap isn't all that bad either. I like that artist fifty-cent but not all his songs. There's one that goes.."many men wish death upon me, blood in my eyes and I can't see, I'm trying to be what I'm destined to be...." It has only about four profane words used about 5 times or so so I just alternate the words. My friends think I'm ridiculous.

One of my personal favorites is Nick Cave. He has been known to use the odd curse, but generally, his writing is more important to him than spewing out a litany of swear words. I love the way he captures what I might call 'American Gothic' imagery, mixing the biblical with the base. Here is one small example:

Sad Waters

Down the road I look and there runs Mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
We go down to the river where the willows weep
Take a naked root for a lovers seat
That rose out of the bitten soil
But sound to the ground by creeping ivy coils
O Mary you have seduced my soul
And I don't know right from wrong
Forever a hostage of your child's world

And then I ran my tin-cup heart along
The prison of her ribs
And with a toss of her curls
That little girl goes wading in
Rollin her dress up past her knee
Turning these waters into wine
Then she platted all the willow vines

Mary in the shallows laughing
Over where the carp dart
Spooked by the new shadows that she cast
Across these sad waters and across my heart
