choice of paint colors..PINK AND BLACK.

hello,

I recently decided to paint my room and redo it, but I really wanted a drastic color change. I am deciding on black and pink. Though I want to do the walls pink and maybe some small area of the room black or use black accents and accessories, I was also thinking about using black chalkboard paint so I can write on one of my walls and my room won't look too punky. I love fashion, and haute couture. But I want it too look cute and be able to last a long time without getting little kiddish. I have looked on a bunch of sites, for the right color pink ie: sherwin williams, bejamin moore, behr, lowes. And many other sites, but no matter where I look I can't seem to find it. It's a hot pink color , not too bright but not too neutral. Also if I could get some suggestions, on black accessories on a budget. I'm kind of afraid of pink though I love it, but I'm afraid because everyone says if you walk into room you will be blinded by the color, but I hope it can still be a calm peaceful and fun place to relax, but I'm outgoing so I want something fun and cute.

Thanks!

sincerely,

you can talk any item of the color you like to home depot, and they will match it exactly.

I've taken in soap dispensers swags, whatever, and pointed to the area of the pattern I wanted to match, and it's come out perfectly.

personally, a hot pink and black room doesn't sound too peaceful, and I think all the pink will make it look little kiddish.

A little of a really bright color can go a long way.

Have you considered painting one of the walls your bright pink, and making the other walls a softer shade? Then with black accessories, you would be showing your enthusiasm and your budding sophistication.

I think pink and black can be great together. However, have you thought of also using other colors with it like grays, taupes, greens etc?

Suggestion, look up color wheels on the internet...you will learn about contrasting colors and complementary colors.

Also, go to a store, like a Target that sells a lot of throw pillows, not to buy, just to check them out...find a bright pink one, and a black one and put them together....then, start to add other color pillows and see what combinations look good to you.

BTW, what is your age? Do you want a femine look? or a modern one, or something else?

What do you want the room to say about YOU?

This must be the current popular color combination because we have about 6 threads with teens asking for suggestions about doing a room in pink and black. It's very Paris Hilton. Boomerang posted some pictures from Target showing bedding and window treatments in these colors. I think this combination will look very dated in another year or two - like avacado gold from the 60's or the mauve and grey of the 80's. However, go with what you like and you can always change it.

You're right GW....

to me, personally, been there, done that with pink and black with my clothes back in the 80's

I'm thinking this poster is youngish, since she expressed concern about not looking "little kiddish"

hmmm...didn't realize pink and black was a paris hilton thing. Damn, I've got to renew my subscription to Tiger Beat magazine.

I just love love love color, in room decorationg I mean. Not meaning all bright and outlandish, but finding that mix and proportion that says "yes, this is beautiful, this is a room I can enjoy being in"

Since our poster hasn't come back, I'll add this in...

Brightish pink, IMO is an accent color, to catch the eye and excite momentarily.
Combined with let's say a soft yellow and pale green, it makes me think of a garden party, light and airy.

With black and gray, it reminds me personally of a hard business woman, trying to soften her look with a feminine color. If a really warm cream replaces the gray, it starts to look more sophisticated.

Since a little pink goes a long way, that's why I was suggesting an accent wall.

This is fun.

What are the colors in your home, or favorite room green witch?

I'm totally about earth tones. I like deep mossy green with amber, light and rusty browns plus a few reddish highlights. I like furniture that shows a lot of wood and wood floors with area carpets. Neutral cream or light yellow walls. Not much for big patterns on fabrics. My windows tend to be just off white lace drops or sheers hung half way down. I live in an old house with exposed, hand cut beams in the older part, so I think of it as living in an ancient tree. I usually tell people I have been very influenced by Mr. Badger's home in The Wind in the Willows. I collect old cook ware and that adds a lot of copper and black to the mix. I have one bathroom that is blue and white- sort of like chinese dishware, but that's an exception to my usual taste and came about when I inherited some flow blue serving plates that now hang on the bathroom walls.

In 45 years I don't think I have ever bought myself anything pink, except maybe some bath beads or blush.

Thanks for asking Chai.
