Some of us have been talking about a potential a2k gathering in Europe next year. So far there has been a lot of interest in arranging it in the spring, emphasis on April/May, with Spain being the site of choice up to now for various reasons.
We've been talking about it in the later pages of these two threads (and probably a few others, but I forget exactly which ones) -
A Europe A2K Gathering in May 2005

An Official A2K Gathering in Chicago, May 7, 2006

I could set up a poll with this question, but I think we should talk about what goes in the poll first - and then we could begin a new thread for that.
Extremely unlikely that I could make it, but not completely impossible -- sozlet's of the age to start traveling more, our finances might be nosing over the desperation line, and E.G. gets invited to conferences in Europe a lot.
So, watching with interest, but again extremely unlikely.
Comments really started on page 111 of the Europe in 2005 thread, link above.
The polls should start with WHERE first, I think.
Many think we need to base the location on where a local person is, and a few (like me) don't think that's the key criterion. I think the poll should have a selection of both... and possible a third type, that is, places where a2kers have been before, and can advise us, if not actually go to the get together.
Then we can have a second poll for WHEN; from past experience, a lot of people like April-May, and some can't make it then mostly because of child related school matters. Perhaps we'll end up with two meetings...
osso, Thank you for starting this thread. At the very least, it puts people on notice about next year's plans for another Europe a2k gathering; plenty of time to discuss and plan.
Thank you, Osso, I am definitely interested. Thanks for starting the thread.
I'll post one of my rare smilies...
Copy/paste from the other thread to keep it in one place:
Quote:Reading along, but it's way to early to commit. I'd love Barcelona, less interested in Munich, other than to see Thomas of course. Time and place will matter for us. I'll keep reading along as the discussion continues.
Shall we start with countries for a poll, or narrow it down to various cities right away? (While most of us talking about it so far agreed on Spain, we should probably let other a2kers get a word in edgewise...)
Giving fair notice to those taking consideration of a Barcelona gathering, at this point in time, The Dys and the lady Diane have this trip on our priority list. You have been warned.
Can I get some thread starter? Does it make one's threads taste better?
Hi dys, That is great news. We now really have a great start on this gathering. I hope more people make committments - and even make suggestions for other venues if they have the interest.

I remember Clary telling us that her home town is inexpensive (unlike London) and there are things to see in the area. Might also be a considered location.
Hmmm.
I keep having trouble posting the words "thread starter is like string cheese".
I'm hoping to do part of
this ... click in 2007.
... or the route of the
Cathars
Languedoc
Not sure if it fits in with any other offerings.
Sounds like one could do both - one or more of those and also Barcelona, eh, eh?
I see I mislisted the Santiago de Compostela thing as San Juan de Compostela - I know little about it except that people find it interesting.
I think Walter featured that canal in one of his tours related to the Tour de France - if that's the one, I found it very interesting.
