This was the best movie I've seen this year, and for a while before that, too. Spike Lee really did it this time - delivering an action movie with real characters I cared about, action that rivets, twists that intrigue, and a pace that keeps you interested.
Denzel Washington is superb as a jaded but dedicated detective. Jody Foster is very good in a role like I haven't seen her do before. You really love to hate her, and then...
I was suprised at how much Spike has really seemed to grow as a director. He didn't rely on the hokey little tricks (there is only ONE scene that uses the 'character-rolling-directly-toward-you-to-show-rising action' gimmick) this time.
It really seemed like a fresh and authentic look at a big city with all its cynicism, racism and corruption.
I loved this movie - what did others think?
It was a good movie, Snood, but as a student of the movies of Spike Lee, I must really nominate his overlooked masterpiece- School Daze. He should have gotten an academy award for that one. His depiction of the split between the two groups was a lesson for us all and a true portrayal of how it really is out there in American Society.
