We have a 4-year old mahogany deck that has been stained twice with a product called Sikkens. It gave it a nice dark finish but has not held up well, especially in high-traffic areas. Should I a)restain with Sikkens, b)try to strip what's there and stain from scratch with Sikkens, or c)use something else? We live on Cape Cod, if that helps.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Hi stevecc! Welcome to A2K.
I looked around a bit for you, and it seems that the expectation is that you will have to keep re-staining, regardless of the quality of the product you use.

The Sikkens FAQ has some info, especially #15.

I'm sure someone with firsthand experience will offer more useful info soon.
Good luck!
thanks
Great to be here. Nice to get a quick response to my question, too!
Funny. I just finished re-staining my mahogany deck last week. The bottom line is that if you want to keep the original wood look of your deck you're screwed and have to re-stain every 2 years. This is what the local paint store told me. There is no magic product out there for this....bummer. Luckily for me my deck isn't that big and it only took me about 5 hours to re-stain. TIP: Use a roller on as much of it as you can...
