Coat the outside of the candle with varnish. If you hold them by the wick you could even dip them in a can. The varnish forms a hard coat which will prevent the wax from running down the sides.

I read you can put them in a freezer for 3 or more hours before lighting. But, I guess that only works if it's for 'an occassion'.

That's true, littlek ~ from the moment you take them out of the freezer, they should be lit ~ the 'longer' lasting is nominal. Depends on the climate you're in, too.

Or, keep your wicks short. The shorter the wick, the cooler the candle burns. Less for the fire to feed from.

Another good tip, Gen! One quarter inch is the best size for a wick.

or only burn candles in the daylight and they will not have to give off as much light thereby they will last longer.
