Well, I was offended, edgar. My mother's name was Dora. And she would NOT have been amused.
Hmph.
I really do like the name Deadly, though.
She s gone! Moved out, hit the road, packed her trunk....... perhaps it was some kind of spider easter holiday.

In Reno. Just to watch him die.
THAT IS NOT A PET. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hear ya, Bella! This is just crazy, isn't it?
I come here thinking "oh cool, dadpad has a new pet and needs help with names", all of a sudden I see all these spider pics and I'm left here freaking out all by my self!!!
Jeeeeezzzzz!
Fascinating. Our spider was finally identified as Hacklemesh weaver. I didn't find any information on whether they are dangerous to humans (as hobo or brown recluse, in terms of their bites), but i suppose it would get mentioned somewhere if it was an issue.
these weavers (family Amaurobiidae) are night hunters. They mate in May and before mother lays eggs (40 max), she makes a nest, usually in a hole in a flat surface (like our basement wall). When the spiderlings hatch and eat through the egg yolks, the mother gives herself to them - they EAT their own mother!!! I feel very protective of our spider now. Ungrateful kids, I'm sure they don't stop to think of their poor mother once they eat her.
Ooh, Dag. Incestuous cannibalism, right there under your nose. I wouldn't stand for it. Can you get her a fake ID and smuggle her across the border?

Well, I GUESS I can forgive you...<sniffle> I only cried myself to sleep that night, is all...no big deal if you think my name is spidery...<sniffle>

Then he's a mother-eater.
Squish the damn thing.
Hey, they keep the hobo spiders and brown recluses out of the house, because they out-hunt them. and littlek found a creepy centipede that she doesn't like in the spider's web. so we like our spider now.
ha! That's good. How about Mattheeeeeeew!
