Rainsoft Classic Apollo V2 softener, brine to resin tank?

I just purchased a home with the referenced water softener and noticed the brine does not flow into the resin tank. I have looked all over though can not see how the brine gets into the resin tank. I only see the fill line that originates from the brine valve float system.
Does anyone know what I should be looking for and/or what the problem may be?

Tony G,
When you put it in backwash - does water run to the drain?
By any chance is the system by-passed?

If you are able to put the system into manual backwash and never see water move in the brine valve
float system (Tri-Guard) then I suggest you have the rubber parts (O-rings & tabs) in your valve replaced.

Is the brine line clear? Remove the line from the very top of the Tri-Guard and blow into it.
You should here bubbles in the salt tank... if not, clean out the salt tank.

Dear H2O Man
During backwash water does flow to the drain. As far as I know, the system does not seem bypassed though how can I be sure?
When the triguard is full, there is no movement within any cycle.
Is the fill line, which runs from the top of the triguard into the storage tank, also the brine line?

If water runs to the drain it's not bypassed.

Yes it is.

From the information given I'm 99.9% you need new O-rings and maybe new drain and brine tabs.

Dear H2O Man,
Thank you for the diagnosis.
Do the O-rings pertain strictly to the triguard?
The only tabs I see on the parts list is the Shutoff Tabs. Are they the correct ones?

The O-rings (3) are on the piston two more are on the brine injector.
Yes, Shutoff tabs. One just before the drain exit on the valve and the brine
tab is next to it with a small line leading to the Tri-guard. They both have brass spring clips.

Parts availability
Hi,
I am about to ressurect my Apollo system, and am sure it will need seals or ring at least. When you get your parts and get it running, can you please post your source of parts?
Thanks!!
Jim

Rainsoft Classic Apollo V2 softener, brine to resin tank?
Dear H2O Man & Jim,

First I would like to advise that I was able to get the softener working properly, briefly. It appears that the Brass Valve Casting is eating the replacement o-rings off the Piston Stem. Even after a ridicules coating of Waterproof Valve Grease. I once even found the PS stuck during a cycle and the Drive Motor almost burned out. I'm not currently in a position to purchase a family size softener. Any suggestions?

PS. Jim- For time and money sake, I would suggest matching the rings at your local Home Improvement store. If not, in the USA call 800-382-7638.

The teflon coating on the piston bore may be missing in some areas causing the o-ring wear.
Pull the piston and look at the valve with a flashlight and feel it with your finger.

Dear H2O Man,

You're correct, there is hardly any teflon left in the piston bore. Does this mean I have to replace the whole Valve Casting?

Thank you,

Tony G

If you send me a picture of the valve you have I may be able to help you with that problem.
I also need to see the inlet an outlet connections.
