I think IQ tests are designed to determine the ability to solve problems.
Generally they are designed to involve all the aspects of the human mind. Imagination is a vital part of the "skills" we apply to solve the problems presented us. Mathematical skills are an advantage, but mathematical perception is what they're trying to measure, I think.
So it discovers the capacity of your reason. But it doesn't discover anything about your motivations to use it. It tells you nothing about mental health.
To be insane is not the loss of reason. If so, Hitler could never have done what he did, because to do it required great skills in reason, more specifically strategy and politics.
So an IQ test is a measure of potential productive value as I see it. To see of how much use you can be. And so I carry a wee bit distaste for these tests.
Btw coberst, if judgement is a mixture of emotion and reason, how is it testing our IQ. If it is a mix, then it is not testing both?
Cyracuz says--"Btw coberst, if judgement is a mixture of emotion and reason, how is it testing our IQ. If it is a mix, then it is not testing both?"
You and I agree that an IQ test measures our ability to make good judgments.
A judgment requires consideration of both our emotions and our ability to reason.
Now I am confused! I am not sure what I am trying to do.
if it was me i would have carried on running
