That could power a few cities.

I wonder if solar power can meet demand and be reliable enough...

Naturally the best systems use a combination of factors to operate at peak efficiency. But the progress on solar panels these last few years has been pretty amazing, and I'm sure it will continue to grow in usage in the next several years as our next prez focuses money and effort on it.

Solar, Nuclear, wind, hydro - and eventually, geothermal - all part of the same, low-to-zero emission system.

The only "self evident truth" about you is your posts that contribute nothing to a2k. Your momma must have spanked you so often, she forgot which side of you was your face and which side your arse.

Yes, our poor mom; she raised four children. The oldest became an attorney and administrative judge in CA. I worked in management for most of my professional career. My younger brother is an opthalmologist with an MBA, and is now a legislator in CA. Our sister is an RN as a head nurse of a hospital in CA.

Yeah, poor mom; we came from a very modest background; and all of us and our children are above average in every way. Our children: four doctors, two with PhDs, an attorney, our son got his masters at the University of Texas in Austin - now working at the university, our younger son graduated cum laude. Poor, poor, us!

Wind Power is already feasible, even cost effective, where it is windy. Hydro is awesome (see the Hoover Dam), and banks of offshore wave power devices are coming soon. No brainer where the waves are big. For the most part; these technologies can be made cost effective on smaller scales much more cost effectively... which means instead of waiting for Uncle Sam; do it yourself.

About half the dough you blow on power is to maintain the transmission infrastructure/transmission itself. This means power you make saves you exactly what you would pay the power company. Unfortunately, contrary to popular belief, the power companies are not required to pay you for making energy at this rate. In most places; you're lucky to get half. This is a good place to start as far as passing legislation to encourage eco-friendly power production.

In the mean time; a home or a company in a windy area can still get top dollar for producing eco-friendly power simply by consuming it themselves. An energy hungry company in a windy area can actually improve their bottom line by purchasing one of those giant GE Windmills... but not too many really need that kind of power. The trick is in investing only enough to manufacture most of your own power. This is equally true at your residence.

This is all fine and friendly, but battery technology still blows. So when the wind don't blow and the sun don't shine, we still need grid power and the single best, most eco-friendly way to get it is nuclear power. Nuke Tech is damn near perpetual motion, and the only thing that's really required to take advantage is a minimal amount of education for the masses. I've no time to gather the stat's but I assure you the number of people killed by coal transportation alone, already, dwarves the number ever even effected by nuclear power plants (not counting idiotic Soviet designs that would never be used here anyway).

Too broad a question to answer simply. Provide context and I will be more then happy to elucidate my positions.

Could you give it a rest with your family's success story? How many times to you need to tell us this? Do you see any of the other posters at this site -- with the exception of Roxxxanne -- spouting on about how successful we or our relatives are?

Sister Mary Linus, when I was in 2nd grade, put a gold star on my forehead and announced to the class that I was the best blackboard cleaner (up to a height of about 4' from the floor). That has been MY major achievement so far in life, Chill out.

This sounds exactly like the REPUGS, who have COMBUSTED all over the place! Scandal, after sexually explicit scandal, from the "Family Values" group laced with "Patriotic Pride", where everyone has sex with little boys, (pages), or in public bathrooms at airports, or really kinky Christians, "get it on", with HIGH-PRICED PROSTITUTES, using TAX DOLLARS! Then, they trot their STARK RAVING MAD wives out, to listen to their MEA CULPAS!

Give me a card carrying LIBERAL any day! Give me a LIBERAL, who doesn't HAVE to PAY for it! They're usually GOOD-LOOKING and easy on the eyes! Imagine waking up next to CHENEY, or heaven forbid, RUMMY! They should all be impeached! Cool

On our TV screens we continually see and hear of unrest, mayhem and violence in much of Africa- Ethiopia, Sudan, Congo, and now again in Zimbabwe.

Leaving aside the historical reasons for much of this, do you think these images hurt Mr Obama's candidacy? I do.

I'm curious, does the fact that Bayh has endorsed Clinton make a difference to you? (No agenda, just curious -- I'm interested in the subject of what effect endorsements have, if any.)

Not really, because I have enough respect for Bayh to allow him that one mistake Laughing

Seriously, his endorsement of Hillary really doesnt mean much to me, because he has been a supporter of her for years,so it wasnt unexpected.

I would have supported him for President, even though I dont agree with most of his positions.
It was the little, intangible things that cause me to support him.
Those things that you cant quantify or explain, but you know what they are.

Things like he looks you in the eye when he talks to you, he remembers your name, he actually listens to people, even those that disagree with him.

Its all of the intangibles, not his positions, that cause me to support him and hope he decides to run in 2012.

This exchange was a while ago... now I'm curious, would Bayh as Obama's VP make you more interested in Obama?

Don't know if Obama will be asking, but Bayh seems interested:

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/06/25/1167591.aspx

If Obama does select Evan Bayh as his VP, then I would have to take a long hard look at the Obama ticket.
I do think that Evan Bayh would be an excellent choice for Obamas VP.
He has the foreign policy experience, he did wonders economically for Indiana, and he is extremely intelligent.
If Obama did pick him, it could also bring Indiana to vote dem this year.

The downside (for the dems) is that right now Indiana has a repub governor, so he could appoint another repub to fill Bayh's seat.
I dont think the dems want that to happen.

So did WWI or WWII bother you? The Europeans are civil only because the US placed sanctions on them and still has a presence over there in Germany, England, France, Korea, Japan, Belgium, not to mention the territories that the US maintains bases on. Do those occupations hurt McSame? I think so!
