Me either. This is all so borderline Magical Negro-ish that's it's ridiculous. Now you can't simply have a black man who transcends on his merits, his accomplishments, his experience. Oh no. He's got to be Messianic. Supernatural.

You guys really are sad.

The democrats have perpetrated the myth that a black man could not go anywhere on his own merits for how long now? Why should any Democrat be surprised at all of this?

Ridiculously twisted logic ya got there, Okie - mis-representations of positions combined with overgeneralizing. Do you think comments such as this really add to the conversation?

In other news, from the Ted Kennedy endorsement article:

Quote:
But Obama did clarify, however, that he did not think Clinton's comments this week were intended to negatively harm his campaign.

"I don't think they were trying to demonize me, but I do think that there is a certain brand of politics that we've become accustomed to, and that the Republican Party had perfected and was often directed against the Clintons, but that all of us had become complicit in, where we basically think anything is fair game," he said.

He also reiterated that the "slash-and-burn politics" that exists in Washington today "is not the Clintons' fault. It is all of our faults, in the sense that we've gotten into these bad habits and we can't seem to have disagreements without being disagreeable. So part of what I think we have to do is to set a new tone in politics. Not a naive one."

ABC News' Mary Bruce contributed to this report.

Part of the appeal of Obama is the fact that he does get the current situation and seeks to change it. Hillary goes on about change but then proceeds to fall back into the comfortable and toxic patterns that have defined her Husband's political career. It rings hollow in the minds of many.

Well, some of the people here are going out of their way to **** in the pot, BpB.

As a long-time supporter of free and open posting on A2K I have no real problem with people posting wherever they like; there are no sacred threads. Actually I think you are bringing up a good point. Obama's challenge is to fight both the Republicans, and the Republican-lites.

Sloppy wording on my part... but until it's been established that you, or any other single supporter is representative; it remains silly to simply paint the group based on one person's comment.

I have gone back and looked at thomas' post, my agreements and every other post following. Nowhere did I see Messianic juxtaposed with black, or magical negro or anything resembling it.

Until you connected the two, and the other cultists chimed in in perfect agreement. Laughing

tjis isn't about race remember?
What is your point? Is it that the campaign has much to do with race? Few aspects of the SC primary would dispute that conclusion.

Messianic is most often used to describe the likes of Christ (who performed miracles). Why is it that a black man being almost as charismatic as Clinton; isn't simply really good... but has to be supernatural good? This is hinting towards being magic negro-ish as EOE suggested.

Really though; what point do you think you made?

The Obama detractors have chosen to focus on his positive message and ignore basically every other thing he has said about how things should actually get done.

It's a failing argument, even though; it's the argument that people shouldn't have hope that things could be different. I understand that hope isn't enough, that's clear to anyone who has watched the Republicans f*ck it up for years and then fight to keep anyone from fixing things as hard as they possibly can.

But you've got nothing if you don't have hope for the future. Go on, with the anti-hope message. Tell people that change is futile, see how far that gets ya.

This is exactly what I was talking about.

There are plenty of Hillary and Edwards supporters who lay down comments here and elsewhere without trying to stir up problems.

But you are shitting in the pot, BpB, and you know it, so why pretend that it's any different? And you're right, dealing with Dems who are willing to be nasty - and who don't care what tactics must be used to win - is a significant challenge for Obama. In many ways, it's quite an illustrative point, and I thank you! Laughing

Why if someone points to Obama as a MAN presenting as messianic candidate does someone have to interject and suggest they are pointing to Obama as a messianic BLACK MAN ( and no such thing was said or implied)

What you need is a big CLUE.

It is precisely the supposedly Republican tactics that the Clintons are employing, and the results are remarkably similar. I see Rox, Soz, Cyclo, myself, Finn, and even Okie and MM with the occasional compliment to Obama's directionÂ… as opposed to the Dynastic duo's increasingly belligerent attempts at division.

again, outside of the fact that I don't support Obama and have stated why.... how does that mean I'm shitting in the pot? besides the fact that you vehemently disagree with me and therefore accuse me of being a closet republican, a word that carries the same connotation to you as pedophile or serial killer?
