People are removing Obama stickers from their personal cars... this is a good sign.
I realize it is futile to ask for a reputable source for the claim of a slide in popularity.
Sadly, NIMH doesn't hang out on A2K much anymore. I look at Rasmussen, which does a daily poll.
One thing they do is take the % of people who STRONGLY APPROVE of President Obama's performance and subtract the % who STRONGLY DISAPPROVE. The result is an approval INDEX. Here is how that number goes since 1/21 in 2-week increments:
1/21: +28
2/1: +21
2/15: +11
3/1: +8
3/15: +6
4/1: +5
They also report the more common APPROVE/DISAPPROVE % (ie going beyond just those folks who STRONGLY approve/disapprove). Those numbers:
1/21: 65%-30%
2/1: 63%-34%
2/15: 60%-39%
3/1: 58%-40%
3/15: 56%-43%
4/1: 56%-44%
@realjohnboy,
well, there you go with absolute proof that Obama isn't as popular as some people think he is or as unpopular as some other people think he is. I'm relieved.
Has this been posted, Obama and wife, Michelle, among other gaffes, broke established protocol with the queen, in regard to body contact. My reaction was initially whats the big deal, but then somebody pointed out to me, when in Rome, do as the Romans do, after all they are at Buckingham Palace. Heck, our troops are told in Iraq not to do certain things, like do not show the bottom of your shoe to an Iraqi, that is very disrespectful. Also do not talk to them close with sunglasses on, or do not step back while talking, that is disrespectful. DO NOT TOUCH their women, that is most important. These are just a few pointers among many, and the troops are instructed on these things, so that we do not offend.
Can't the president and First Lady at least offer the same courtesy for anywhere they happen to be, or are they just too self important and arrogant? We all know that if Bush and Laura had done this, they would have been called some pretty crude names, Texas gunslingers, disrespectful, and stupid, among other things. But of course the liberal press treats Obama as if he is too holier than thou to offend anyone, after all, whats the big deal about the old fuddy duddy queen? That is the attitude nowadays.
I tend to think alot of this is intentional, after all, what serious president that had a first clue about history would return a bust of Winston Churchill to England, after having been presented to a previous president for the White House? I think that is not only very insulting, but extremely arrogant. Obama doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Churchill. Obama has done virtually nothing, and what he has done is highly questionable, yet he has the gall to do this. The man has alot of nerve, but does he have any sense?
Speaking as a Brit, I personally thought it was sweet when Michelle (may I call her that?) put her arm round the Queen, and the gesture was returned.
She's probably a bit fed up with people treating her as thought she were cut glass. And I bet she doesn't get many cuddles from Phil.
The Queen apparently said "Do keep in touch", and my feeling is she meant it. Michelle has a warmth which is tangible, and she has been a big hit here. Somebody compared it to the Princess Diana effect, and it's not too dissimilar.

It's nice to suddenly see you so concerned about proper protocol. I think you'll be glad to hear that the reported incident actually wasn't a gaffe:
Quote:Michelle Obama has frequently displayed a down-to-earth approach during the trip.
On meeting the Queen, she followed formality by curtseying, but later, during a reception, she showed her more casual, affectionate side by putting her arm around Her Majesty to hug her.
It is reported that the Queen was so taken by Mrs Obama she even said: "Now we've met, will you please keep in touch?"

Quote:A spokesman for Buckingham Palace tells Inside Edition that "it's obvious that it was a mutual sign of affection and appreciated between the queen and Michelle Obama. There is no offense. The reception was an informal occasion. There's no breach of protocol."

PrezBO's numbers continue to slide...
@old europe,
Even the anti-royalist press in Britain liked that. And when you look at the letters to the editors: it's nearly 100% pro.
Well, okie, still having some colonial feelings, missing the times pre the Boston Tea Party?

I'm pretty sure that really goads Okie's sense of protocol. This would never fly in Oklahoma.

Michelle Obama’s Favorability Rating Tops the President’s
Susan Davis reports on the White House.
First Lady Michelle Obama is more popular than her husband, according to the latest Gallup poll on the First Couple’s approval ratings.

Michelle Obama is welcomed by Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in London on Wednesday.
Nearly three-quarters of Americans, 72%, have a favorable view of Mrs. Obama, while President Barack Obama trails slightly behind at 69%. The first lady also has a lower unfavorability rating at 17% compared to 28% for her husband.
The president has enjoyed high favorability ratings since taking office in January, although they have dipped from his initial peak at 78%. The first lady, however, has been on a statistical climb with no dips since June 2008, when her favorability was just 48%.
“It is not uncommon for first ladies to be more popular than their husbands, in terms of either their favorable ratings or their job approval ratings. To illustrate, Laura Bush averaged a 71% favorable rating from 2001-2009, compared to George W. Bush’s 56% average,” Gallup notes, “The greater popularity of first ladies likely reflects that their role is far less controversial than that of the president, which often results in less partisan ratings of the first lady.”
Currently, Mrs. Obama is traveling with the president on their first foreign trip to attend the Group of 20 summit of world leaders in London. “Michelle Fever Hits the UK” reads a BBC News headline. Her moves are being scrutinized by the foreign press almost as closely as her husbands"from her fashion choices to her faux pas.
The British press is frothing after the first lady violated official protocol during her visit with Queen Elizabeth II by briefly touching Her Madgesty"the queen is not supposed to be touched. (The Times of London has video.)
Mrs. Obama slipped her arm around the queen after she embraced the first lady first in a discussion about their height difference.
@dyslexia,
okie is the expert on all things economics and political; especially those things that has to do with royalty - like King George.

If its okay with the queen, then its okay with me, I don't give a hoot beyond the fact that I don't care to see Obama and wife offend anyone of our friends for no good reason. If it didn't, then fine. The whole idea of royalty is a bit foreign to my way of thinking, but as I said, when in Rome, do as the Romans do, out of respect, that was my concern.
I think the return of the Winston Churchill bust was alot bigger deal the way I see it. I personally hold him in far higher esteem than Obama. But I guess all the libs on this forum probably admire Obama and Michelle, even though they haven't accomplished diddly, ever, and that includes organizing Chicago.
@okie,
You don't give a hoot now, because you were proven to be wrong in attacking Michelle Obama. You're a putz - first class. Keep making negative charges without having any knowledge about protocol, economics or politics. Yeah, you're a putz.
@cicerone imposter,
Quote:putz - (Yiddish) a fool; an idiot
Yiddish - a dialect of High German including some Hebrew and other words; spoken in Europe as a vernacular by many Jews; written in the Hebrew script
fool, muggins, saphead, tomfool, sap - a person who lacks good judgment
2. putz - obscene terms for penis
pecker, cock, dick, peter, prick, tool, shaft
penis, phallus, member - the male organ of copulation (`member' is a euphemism)
dirty word, vulgarism, obscenity, smut, filth - an offensive or indecent word or phrase
I wouldn't sit still for that okie.
@McTag,
Quote:Spendy, as an analyst you couldn't find your own arse with both hands.
You completely misunderstood that, not for the first time. Or maybe you just wanted to be objectionable.
I feel rather like I'm sitting with McTag watching a nature film on the tellie when one of the monkeys touches itself and McTag exclaims:
"My god in heaven! I didn't know they did that...and in public!"
@okie,
If that's true, how come when Bush went around offending leaders all over the world, you
didn't say **** about it, Okie?
Get off it. You couldn't care less about whether or not someone is offended, you just have your britches in a twist b/c the Dems are in charge now, they will be for a while, and there isn't **** you can do about it. Get over it. You've been pouting since the election and it's boring to read.
