I Can't Get This Attachment to Deliver!

Reply Tue 28 Feb, 2006 03:57 pm
Ok, I have a Windows Media file I want to attach to an email to send to someone. I keep trying but keep getting a delivery failure notification. It seems the file is too large? Hmmmm. Ok, someone sent it to me as an attachment so, do I need to set something different somewhere? I can use either Yahoo Mail or Outlook Express.

I really want to send this! I can't find the video located on the Internet anywhere to just send a link so I'm kind of at a loss. Can anyone help me?

Kiwichic ~ hang in there girl! I am calling out the experts. I will get that file to you somehow! Laughing

Thanx!

Some service providers place size limits on their emails. I think mine is 10mb. Not much you can do besides finding an email address without size limitation (yahoo, hotmail or gamil perhaps?).

Thanx for responding, jp. Ok, I just checked. The file is 1.02 MB. It got to me just fine. It pulls up and plays and no problem. I have sent it to others and no problem. Would it matter if it's going to New Zealand or not?

You should be able to send a 1mb file. What does the error message say?

sometimes "delivery failure notification" means there's a typo, so double-check the address...

jp,

I deleted the danged message but tried sending the file again so when I get the message I'll let you know what it says.

Region,

I thought that might be it but I am sending it to the same email as always. I just type in Kiwichic and it automatically puts in her address.

I hate this! I know it should work and it drives me nuts when it won't!

If it is violating a file limitation you might try dividing it into two emails.

Acquiunk,

Well, I am not having problems sending it to anyone but this one email address. It goes through just fine everywhere else. We're not being boycotted by New Zealand, are we? Just kidding!

It's a video file and I haven't a clue how to do anything other than click on it to attach it or play it.

Okay, it just came back and this is what the notice said:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

(REMOVED BY MOMMA ANGEL)@hotmail.com

Do you think it matters because it's going to a hotmail account?

The issue probably isn't with you or your end of the system. The limitations are almost always on the receiver's e-mail inbox.

Okay, yes, I have a program called Easy Zip. I just zipped the file. I will send it now and see if it works.

Will she have to have a special program to open it though?

Ok, that zipped it pretty good. I just sent it. Will let you know what happens.

I sure appreciate everyone's help on this! Y'all are awesome!

Ah ha! I think we might be onto something here! Seems it might not be on my end that there is a problem?

It came back a bit differently this time. I opened up this and look!

Diagnostic-Code: smtp;552 5.2.2 This message is larger than the current system limit or the recipient's mailbox is full. Create a shorter message body or remove attachments and try sending it again.

It goes just fine without the attachment. So, I'm guessing my good buddy Kiwichi's mailbox is too full to handle this with the attachment? Since it is getting to everyone else unzipped and this one was zipped? Whatcha think?

Ok, she emptied out her mailbox. I sent an email with the file zipped and one with it unzipped. Cross your fingers!

Er, you do know that Hotmail's maximum attachment size is 1024 Kb, which is 1.0 Mb?

contrex,

Actually, no, I did not know that! When I zipped this file it did go down to .98 Mb and she had cleaned out her mailbox and finally got the attachment.

I definitely will keep in mind about hotmail's limits! I appreciate it!
