This won't be the first "bad" Pink Panther film
There have been three others;
Inspector Clouseau (1968) starred Alan Arkin
Curse of the Pink Panther (1983) starred Ted Wass
Son of the Pink Panther (1993) starred Roberto Benigni
As far as Steve Martin's recent films go, I really liked Shop Girl.

I know other bad Pink Panther films:

The Pink Panther (1963)
The Return of the Pink Panther (1975)
The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976)
Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978)
Trail of the Pink Panther (1982)

---

The cartoon character is great, the music by Mancini, a classic.
The Clousseau films are all a bore, Sellers or no Sellers.

It's certain that "A Shot in the Dark" and "The Pink Panther" are the two films which were the best in the series and I don't find those boring, but like most comedies, it's difficult to appreciate the humor once one has seen them.

I wouldn't see this either, because I do like the originals... why do things over? Re-inventing the wheel is such a waste of time when it was done right the first time.

I did like Steve Martin in Roxanne, however.

I don't know how I can reconcile those two statements; they seem to be contradictory, yet both are true to me.

The original Pink Panther aired this week on PBS. I thought it was leaden in pace and that David Niven phoned in his performance. The women were beautiful, however.
