Hello,
Are there any good/meaningful quotes to express thanks to family and friends? I'm asking for a friend who will have the apportunity to display such a sentiment at her graduation. To some extent she'd like to suggest that much of our success rests on the starting point.
I've spent hours looking on the various quote sites to no avail.
Thanks,
K
kpam
I'll get back to you
Here's a little poem by Emily Bronte that compares friendship favorably with love:
'Love And Friendship'
Love is like the wild rose-briar,
Friendship like the holly-tree--
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms
But which will bloom most constantly?
The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring,
Its summer blossoms scent the air;
Yet wait till winter comes again
And who will call the wild-briar fair?
Then scorn the silly rose-wreath now
And deck thee with the holly's sheen,
That when December blights thy brow
He still may leave thy garland green
(Emily Bronte)
JJorge,
Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, she's limited to two or three sentences.

"I no doubt deserved my enemies, but I don't believe I deserved my friends"
-Walt Whitman (In Bradford, 'Biography and The Human Heart')
My favorite:
"Think where man's glory most begins and ends,
And say my glory was I had such friends."
(William Butler Yeats)
"From quiet homes and first beginning,
Out to the undiscovered ends,
There's nothing worth the wear of winning,
But laughter and the love of friends."
(Hilaire Belloc)

Thanks Roger
I believe I may have a couple more that kpam can look at . . . stand by.
Jjorge, beautiful quotes.
"I get by with a little help from my friends."
-John Lennon-
('With a Little Help From My Friends', song, 1967, w. P. McCartney)

The Lennon quotation is the last one I can come up with for now.

Glad you like them.
I can easily apply the Yeats quotation to my wonderful A2K friends.
(jjorge to self: 'darn it, there you go getting all MUSHY again!)
JJorge,
Thank you for the excellent quotes, especially the one from Lennon.
K
Here's another one.
Of course this fellow was not as smart as John Lennon.
To the query, "What is a friend?"
his reply was "A single soul dwelling in two bodies."
( Aristotle, quoted in Diogenes Laertius, 'Lives of Eminent Philosophers')
"Anybody can sympathise with the sufferings of a friend,
but it requires a very fine nature to sympathise with a
friend's success."
(Oscar Wilde)
Given the brief duration of the *presentation* the quote from Lennon most easily captures the sentiment of globally thanking family and friends. [Plus, her dad is a big Beatles fan.]
Again, thank you for the great suggestions. I quite like the others...
K
actually, I had a hunch that the Lennon quotation might fit best
she should probably NOT use the next line in the Lennon song:
'I get high with a little help from my friends' ... :-)
(although her father surely must know it)
