I've been after Mr. B to put some new lighting in our garage and today he did so.
He bought some lights that say "daylight" but the light they cast is very blue. It is kind of freaking me out.
I've noticed that some car headlights are now really blue, too.
What is up with blue lighting?
Sounds like quartz halogen or metal halide lighting. Apparently prolonged exposure can be bad for you, really! I read the phrase 'macular degeneration' somewhere....
Yikes!
I have really crappy vision anyway. I don't spend a lot of time in the garage but I really don't want to be around anything that might damage my vision further.
The fixtures and bulbs look like regular florescent "shop" lighting. I'll drag out the packaging and have a look.
Just buy a little disco ball - that will do.
Most of the web stuff says flourescent is particularly blue, but the imperceptible flicker affects some people.
Why a little one Jane? Get some strobes and gels.
You're right, she can get a big disco ball.
I probably had my garage in mind when I said that, since
mine is pretty low and I couldn't hang a big disco ball (unfortunately).
Damn - I meant to say flourescent IS NOT particularly blue. Poop.
Dang Jane, if your garage is that small the line to get in will be enormous....
For the good stuff, you always have to stand in line

Now I feel like I have to offer something....
Not with those shoes, Gus.

She offered her honor; he honored her offer, and he was on her and off her all night long.
I really hate to copy my bedroom decor in the garage though, CJane. It just seems a little.... I don't know... redundant?

He put in daylight bulbs instead of warm white. Cool white are usually around 5500K and are obviously bluer than warm white around 3700K which has more red in it. Daylight is about 6500K so is even bluer than cool white.

this is not a circle jerk.... get up
so.. how did the bulbs get.. blue?
that seems wierd to me.
Why would they have a blue hue? Just because they are supposed to mimic sunlight?
maybe i need to get some more coffee..
I know the 'bug repellant' lights are yellow.. never heard of a blue light.
I'm starting to get used to the blue light but it is really odd. Color appears very intense under these lights and, I think, very realistic, or "true".
It has been so long since we've had a sunny day here that maybe I've just forgotten what daylight looks like!
Thanks parados. You've sparked my "color temperature" memory from photo school. Now it is making some sense.
I'm going to go photograph some stuff out there and compare it to other lighting in my house.
