Rainsoft Amazon Nightmare

I recently bought a house that is equipped with a Rainsoft Amazon water softener. Our power went out and I had to reset the setting on the computer and ever since, the whole unit has not functioned properly. I followed the setup in the owners manual and the settings that the previous owner had written down, but the unit will still not function. I can get it to cycle once using the manual settings, but after that it will never manually or automatically cycle.

If I run the diagnostics, everything appears correctly, but "Capacity in Gallons" is always at 0. I got this reading from running * then 1.

Any suggestions on why this would happen or possible fixes?

I have both emailed and called Rainsoft, but they have been no help at all. They have not returned a single email for weeks now and the customer service just jumps me from one person to another and finally just gives me the number for the closest sales center.

Thanks in advance.

Unplug the unit.
Remove the 9V battery.
Check the fuse.
Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

Install a brand new 9V battery.
Plug the unit back in.
Re-enter all of your settings.

If this does not help please reply with a few pictures.
Also, make sure the unit is not on bypass...

Restarted the unit and I guess we will see how it goes.

How do I know if the unit is in bypass mode?

Here are pictures of my unit: Photos

The brass bypass valve is part of the plumbing behind the tank.
It is a push type valve about half way down the tank... written instructions are printed on the black plastic cap.

By the looks of your drain line you have mud and/or iron, make sure you use "Red Out" salt from time-to-time.

I just checked the water capacity again and it was still at zero. Any ideas why this would always read zero?

Thanks for the help.

That's not capacity, it's gallons used.

Press "@" then press "check" make note of the number.
Flush a toilet and wait for the tank to refill.
Press "@" then press "check" make note of the number.
The number should be higher by at least two.

If the number remains 0 or unchanged the water wheel
and sensor need to be checked.

Since you have 17 grains of total hardness and a 24k capacity
system I would set the capacity at 20.

Press "capacity" the "2" then "0" then "Enter"
Now press "capacity" then "check" and it should read 20.

If you still have a problem it could be a bad board - they are obsolete.
