amazing places around the world for creatives - ideas?

I'm trying to compile a list of amazing places around the world where artists have hung out for inspiration, the social scene or to knuckle down and work.

Any ideas? I'm looking right across the arts, from painting to poetry to music to conceptual art, and right across the world. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks! Jonathan

FOR INSPIRATION::::
OREGON, IL

WHY: THE RIVER IS BEAUTIFUL, PEACEFUL AND VERY INSPIRING....ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE W/ THE RIGHT PERSON...

WINTER IS BEAUTIFUL, FALL IS AMAZING, AND SUMMER IS GORGEOUS...HONESTLY ITS SO AMUSING.

(THE STATUE IN OREGON --- BLACKHAWK... SUCH A GREAT PIECE OF HISTORY to draw inspiration from)

Giverny - Monet's garden. I visited a couple of years ago and it's an amazing place.

Cornwall - the St Ives and Newlyn Groups last century and a current really active lot now - one favourite is Kurt Jackson but there are lots of others, You could google for them - also look at The Great Atlantic Mapworks Gallery online - lots of exciting contemporary work to see.

Cornwall is beautiful.

Scotland - the Scottish Colourists last century and the current artists still influenced by them - lots of exciting paintings to see if you google Scottish Colourists (please not correct spelling of colour!!!!! Twisted Evil not the US version or you won't find them!)

I lived in St. Ives for about 18 months in the mid-sixties. Beautiful.

Sedona, AZ

Artists believe that the red mountain formation surrounding
Sedona is not only inspirational but also spiritually favored.

I was married to the first Mr. Noddy who had come into a small legacy and was trying to write a novel.

The novel remains unwritten....

Paris was a big inspiration to ...well Parisian artists, I think people like Henri Toulose Letrec and others.
He painted the dancing in the Moulin Rouge.
Van Gogh painted fields, even a chair.

The Lake District in the UK is gorgeous.
Id imagine country areas of Japan and China must be amazing.
Going by pictures Ive seen by a travelling friend,Australian sunsets.
