We have two robins nesting in a small spruce tree outside of our sliding glass doors. Keeps the cat mesmerized for hours. Of course if we let him out those two birds would be dead in no time flat.

Birds are supposed to be smart. Why then do they do stupid things like build a nest only four feet off the ground?

Maybe the schools are better in that district.

We have a pair of fluffy little brown bunnies that had been coming out at dusk each evening. I was so worried because the past couple of evenings they weren't there. I was worried the fox I had seen before got them. Then this morning my daughter yells - the bunnies are there - sure enough there they are munching on our grass.

Now the strangest thing I saw in my neighborhood (and I live in a city) was a coyote walking through my yard and just a couple of weeks ago a wild turkey - not that in my area turkeys are not uncommon, but it was hanging out on this small island in the road - and a very busy intersection too.

A couple of days ago (still working with my analogue camera and only now got the film developed), a pair of pigeons looked for a cheap new home and looked over an old nest just opposite our toilet window:

A few years ago, our neighbors did a major roofing project and it disturbed a huge colony of pigeons, many of which decided to roost around our house. I was painting the third floor rooms that summer and could hear them cooing all the time. So long as you kept the car out of the way of the many guano bombs, it was nice having them around, we'd hear them coo at night, sweet sounds. They're not the world's cleanest animals, but they were far enough from our bedroom and kitchen that it wasn't a problem. Haven't thought of that in a few years.

Actually, there's a second nest just on the left outside of the photo.

Both nests aren' really good lodgings: known by the cats and no good in winds over 6 bft - the results are in such cases to be seen/found on yardway.

I suppose, they've chosen another home already.

Went for a walk in the woods around the wetland park tonight. Saw several mallards, some pintails, a goose or two, and lots of little birds. No squirrels, oddly, and no morels. Grrrr!

Baby Canada Geese are toddling after their parents. I have been looking for them, and just today I saw at least 3 seperate families. Now I await the duck and swan babies. I'm glad the flooding didn't do too much damage!

I haven't seen our "Oz-Bunny" redently and wondered ...

Quote:
A Kurort is a resort for preventative medicine, recovery, or cure. It can be a spa (Kurbad) or a resort famed for its fresh air and climate (Luftkurort). Europeans, especially the German-speaking ones, hold "taking the waters" in high regard. A few days at a Bad (baht) or spa can do wonders for anyone's health, even if it's just to relax you. But various spas or Bäder (BAY-der) are known for waters that cure a specific health problem; certain spas have water with particular minerals that are claimed to be best for certain ailments. Taking the waters (eine Kur machen) can involve drinking them, swimming in them, or both.

And the British Army says about my hometown
Quote:
A little known spa town near Lippstadt. During the summer there is a concert most days in the Kurpark which itself is a delightful place to stroll amongst the fountains and flowerbeds.

So, I just went through our 'Kur-Park' (which actually starts literally in front of our house  )...

I called her "Deb!"

But either she's gone having a thermal bath, another smoke ... or it was someone else

On the same walk, I noticed four squirrels, chasing through the underwoods, up and around the trees in a tremendous speed ... so that I only could photograph the "winner", watching, if the others really left his terrain:

I saw a dead deer next the highway last week - does that count? The reason it was so strange is that this is a busy area - no woods that should be large enough to be home to a deer.

Anyone in the Boston area? It was at the Braintree split.
