Anybody heard about "Moutain Athos" in Greece?
I just saw somebody's travel journal, says that's a place forbidden to women and most female creatures. Most men on that island haven't seen women in the whole life. but....

I just don't understand ... where did them come from? how do they keep their race without women? Shocked

Its been that way since around the Fifth Century; it is a monastic community, sort of like a semi-independent commonwealth under the Greek flag today. It is the seat of the Greek Orthodox Church, home to around 2 dozen major monasteries, as well as numerous churches, and, having myself once visited there, I can assure you, it probably is the quietest inhabited spot of land anywhere near the Aegean.

Mount Athos or mostly called "Agion oros"(Holy mountain) is a monastic community. Its only inhabitants are monks. They are not born there, monks by other parts of Greece go to live there. The entrance is forbidden to woman however open to every man wants to visit this place. Maybe that is the reason a lot of the monks there reach 100 years Very Happy

The Mt Athos visit was just a curiosity sidetrip - an over-nighter, more or less - I happened to be in the Mediterranean at the behest of Uncle Sam and had some time to fill but little money with which to fill it that particular weekend. Had the poker game the night before gone differently ...

I did read about this years ago, but had almost forgotten.

A boys only island does sound fun though, just keep them young and healthy.
