I recently saw a show of this well known Colombian artist's work in Cali. Each painting contains a woman and one or more male charactors. The men are Colombian political figures. The woman is Colombia. In this painting one identifiable persona is Raul Reyes, a chief guerrillero who often acts as spokesman for the FARC guerrilla. The style is certainly remeniscent of Andy Warhol's "famous people" portraits with flat, brilliant colors but the content is considerably more disturbing.
I agree. The images are, shall we say, "startling". Thanks for putting us on to this artist!
I like the graphic take, plus the colors...yes, I am more intrigued than by Warhol, who I know broke new ground. Still, I would be interested in seeing this image in different ways...including photo of staged shot, and ...regular old painting. The graphic take shuts me out, a bit, even though I am sympathetic to the content. But I was exposed to Siquieros at a formative age...
The motif is reminiscent of Warhol perhaps but not the style.
This looks more like Francis Picabias later works when he was copying photos from 1950s French nudie mags.
Jaramillo eh?I like the look of it.
I'm assuming the blue face with smoke refers to the drug business but I can't awear to it.
