Check the bridges.
When I saw Walter yesterday, I gave him a city map of Chicago. Thanks to your post, gus, I now realize that may have been a mistake. Us Germans have a checkered history in Chicago and this week was the anniversary of the Haymarket Square incident.
Thank God I have a nice French name like Ratzenhofer and am thereby beyond suspicion.
On the German language thread, Walter left a cryptic message:
Quote:Danke für die guten Wünsche - "wird schon schiefgehen".
Can someone analyze what he meant by this?
That translates to, "Bend over, wandeljw, I have a surpise for you."
Why the hell would he write something like that?
I am glad you all are having such a good time.
Yeah, Walter loves sightseeing tours and taking pictures. So brace yourself
for a lengthy evening where he'll show you his 3598 slides.
gustav, you would haven been such a good addition in Chicago,
playing the animator.

It means "Thank you for the good wishes; (don't worry-) it'll all turn out okay."
Das wollen wir hoffen.

Actually, there's bad news for the non-gatherers: We all forgot our cameras, so none of you will be able to witness the great time I am having with all those wonderful people I am meeting here in Chicago.
Sorrry folks, but whaddayagonnado.

This is a little bit of poetic license Thomas. I know for a fact that one among you has invested a great deal of money in an ultra sophisticated camera and spent the flight from Munich trying to understand it. Hope you are all gettin on ok and of course i am jealous.

He's lying through his teeth without even blinking an eye.

Yit, what time are you thinking of for breakfast? The Art Institute opens at 10:00. I'll leave a bit earlier than planned and try to get downtown by 9:30. How will I recognize you?
as soon as i get there, i guess. i just woke up. i'm a thin, asian type with glasses, in the company of a tall, slender, north american woman with long hair.
<psst, Gus, keep yer lip zipped this time, eh?>
Yes, Thomas' claim is a WEE bit suspect -- could be that nobody wants photos posted, though, which is their perogative. I'd be disappointed but it serves me right for not going...
That said, there MUST be ample prose snapshots of the various adventures you guys have. Looking forward to 'em!

There's only one explanation for that.
Osso, Thomas, the Yitwails and I met for breakfast and then went over to the Art Institute to meet up with Walter (camera bag in hand), RJB, mac11 and Eva. We split up inside and met back at the entrance at 1:00. I gave the cook's tour of the AI for those who were interested.
We were surprised to see Joe waiting for us at the entrance. We went to my favorite Thai restaurant for lunch and then split up into assorted endeavors including a shopping fest back at the AI.
Dinner tonight will be a Giordanno's on Supierior at Rush (not the one on Wabash discussed at lunch), then meeting up at Green Dolphin St (a jazz club) at 2200 N Ashland at Webster.
A2Kers are as wonderful as we all know them to be. I gave mac11 a ride back to her hotel which gave us a nice chance to get to know each other better.
Lots of perfectly good explanations, spendius.
I think it may yet develop that Thomas was teasing us and cameras were being snapped everywhichway -- we'll see.
Thanks, J_B! Sounds great... :-)
Sounds like a fantastic weekend so far.
I'm properly envious[/color]
Thanks for the updates.
Pictures, dammit pictures ! ( Or good stories)
I'm going to pout if there are no photos...........
Somebody can go buy a little ready to go camera....no matter if someone doesn't want their photos taken. I didn't get to join you, so now the least you can do is post the pix.
