The objective of your activity

What is the object of your activity?

I'm hoping the outcome of the poll might be an indication of where we are going as a community.

Some people are born to be negative and destroy, others to be positive and create life.
I think the majority of us are the latter, negativity gets reported on, we rarely hear of the good.

I believe most people want to earn an honest crust, try not to covet their neighbours ass, get our gold watch, live our 3 score years and ten and RIP, all in the mimimum of fuss and the maximum of enjoyment.

this may sound a little pessimistic, but i think for many people, the object of their activity is simply to survive the activites of others and the things the world throws at them

The object of my activity right now is to get a job... until I'm dead Twisted Evil

Good one Smile

But is that enough? You can be sure that you will ultimately fail in your objective.

Of course it's enough. I ask for little.

to bear witness to the cosmos.

and of course, loose shoes, tight sex, and a warm place to go to the bathroom.

a philosophy drawn from years of experience following the grateful dead.

I'm just trying to have my peace; but not all the time. Sometimes I want trouble.
I want to live, eat, work, play (in the bed as much as possible) without contributing to A-holes profit. I want to help give pleasure and peace to those who have been kicked in the face one too many times.

If I can accomplish this with a good amount of food in my belly and once in a while gloat in victory over jerks...well, I'll okay.

Flushd, don't let the assholes define your life goals -- that's not a path to happiness. The assholes are assholes because they aren't happy, don't let it spread to you.

(The more I say this, the better the chances of convincing myself...)

If I were to answer the question, I would say...to make myself useful in a way that makes me happy as well, and to explore life.

I think of my life so far is a panic striken ordeal- something like trying to figure out a chinese puzzle with your hands tied behind your back and a nuclear bomb strapped to a timer ticking away.
(A bit like cramming for the ultimate exam).

My objective? Freedom from oppression, for all mankind.
Anything less and I shall go to my death bed thinking I've failed.

Problem is that to some freedom is the greatest oppression, their reactionairy sense of justice finding no outlet.

Besides, your quest to free me is an oppression towards my desire to free myself. I'd rather you go to your deathbed a failure.. Twisted Evil

Sorry about that Endymion. Don't step away. I was joking about the part of hoping you go to your grave a failure. I am not the sharpest tool in the shed always... Smile

Nobody wants anything more than true freedom. The freedom to do anything, and have no real consequences. The freedom to do what you like, and not be discriminated against by anyone or any institution. That's my objective. It's a sad thing that nobody in this day and age will acheive it, but we all strive for it in one way or another.

Since quotes are coming up, and i must admit that i don't read much in the various areas of philosophy, i'll put in another "quote" that goes with my statement quite well.

"we dream of ways to break these iron bars
we dream of black nights without moon or stars
we dream of tunnels and of sleeping guards
we dream of blackouts in the prison yard"
-Thrice

Hey, Cyracus, no worries.
Sometimes I forget that other people can't 'hear' sarcasm (directed at myself).

KAY, that's really sad regarding the quote. But if you look at it from the victims and their families' perspective, I'd say for the criminals -

just like they wish
their life together back again
just like they want
their loved ones back but sometimes never can
keep dreaming all you will
the light will stay full blast as it is
dream dream all you will
until the abused finds peace
you never will
the world seems dark
after the prison yard
I've heard
they keep it so so bright
can't they find
another way
to make the prison safe
in every way
it seems unfair
'the light so bright
that the world itself seems dark
and no longer bright!'
I read this in the
Time I think
that the prison is kept so bright
it was so shocking
because the criminals
need peace of mind
they already got their
punishment and everything
besides, they should find
the world bright
when they come out
or its not right!
