I am installing medium maple kitchen cabinets with a chocolate glaze. I cannot decide what shade of wood floor to put in. My choice is a gunstock oak and a medium red oak floor. Has anyone mixed this combination??

I've seen the maple cabinets with the chocolate glaze before and they are gorgeous! I'm not that familiar with the colorations of the gunstock oak and the medium red oak flooring though so I am not much help there. Sad

Does one of the floorings match the cabinetry more than the other? I think I'll just need to get onto a site and look at the colors myself.

I will eventually be installing hardwood flooring and getting rid of all the tile flooring that we currently have. But that won't be for awhile yet and so I haven't explored all of the color options available.

Just from my imagination, it sounds as if the gunstock is a bit darker than the red oak? Personally, I might go a tad darker, like that, if that is the case, just to bring out more of the chocolate glazing and give it an overall warmer feel and a bit of a contrast. But that's just me surmising!

I will assume these are roughly the colors you are looking at.

They certainly can work together. But there are so many other issues from a design standpoint. I would never put those colors in a small kitchen since they would make it seem even smaller.

What color are your countertops, appliances and walls? What do you have for windows in the kitchen. All of that can add to the decisions of colors to use. You should do a color pallet with all the colors. If you can't imagine the colors in the space then I would recommend taking pictures and changing to those colors to get a sense of what it will look like.

The dark flooring looks great with light cabinets

Personally if the cabinets were dark, I would find that kitchen depressing.

More ideas on color combinations. Lighter floors often with dark cabinets.
