Hi mcee fya
thanks for posting - nice to hear from a 'local' so to speak!
I'm glad you like the cryptic man - he was a likeable fellow.
Peace,
Endy

these are really great...truely inspiring and yet soo attatched to reality(i said that because fiction normally inspires me...)

ps What else could you expect in a bar? Endy, that bar dude's gotta run his bar...the stripper's gotta earn her bread...and that's just the way it goes...oh well

The Egg Man
Mornin'
Mornin'
Beautiful mornin'
I've been awake all night, writing
Words that leave my bones in pain
I stand in the doorway squinting at an eight o'clock sun
He hands me a dozen
Free-range eggs, tucked in their cardboard nests
"Gertie died today," he says
Waiting for the money
I fumble with one hand, from pocket to empty jeans pocket
"****, I'm sorry, Harold
are you okay?"
"Well, it was expected
but you know, it still hits you."
"I'm sure."
" Anyway she's better off now - being as old as she was."
"Yes. Of course
"
I come up with a ten
"Can you change this?"
"Pay me next time."
"Okay - thanks."
"I buried her under the apple tree this morning.
It was her favourite place in all the world."
"You did the right thing."
"She was a good old bird."
I watch him walk back across the grass
Workman's braces stand out on his shirted back
And he's wearing a flat cap
He waves a military hand
Before he climbs in his van and drives away
I stand there long after he has gone
Soon his generation will be moving on
