Interior, Jain Temple, Mattancherry.
A lovely and compact group of buildings, modest scale, very beautifully built and kept.
Time for some food. A "special lunch" served on a banana leaf, eaten with the fingers.
Rice with vegetable concoctions, and replenished with out extra charge as desired, all for the princely sum of 22 rupees or about 26 pence, or £0.26
Meanwhile, backstage, the boys were getting ready for the show....
Kathakali dancers during their (public) 90-minute makeup application
A stall at the roadside in Ernaculum.
Fruit was cheap and plentiful. I bought a lot of it
And had it for breakfast on my solitary little balcony: water. bananas, apple, orange, and no thou.
No trip to India would be complete, would it, without the snake-charmer?
One man, his pipe, three cobras, and a python.
Er...that's all folks...sailing off into the sunset.
Had to finish with another boat picture.

I said, it never left its mooring and I got fed up waiting to photograph it as it sailed past our jetty.
She said later, it eventually sailed two hours late.
I took that picture (out of the field of fire of the guard with the rifle) as my ferryboat sailed past it.
So, no picture of the boat under way.
(Although I have got a pic of it or its sister-ship, taken a week later)
Claro?
No elephant ride, unfortunately.
Absoluto, as a piko staffo. I misunderstood and being the conspiratorial person that I am, immediately concluded it had taken Clary for a secret espionage trip.
McTag, those were fantastic pictures, Brit. Where are the mongooses for that snake charmer?
Great pics, McTag - thanks for sharing.
Wonderful, McTag! Thank you!
Stunning boat picture McT.
And one snake seems wrapped round his instrument...as it were.
Yeah! Clary - generally warmish this way at Christmas time. Estimated to be hitting 40F tomorrow!
McT, Thanks for sharing your pictures. The sunset with fish nets is my favorite. T.
I loved your photographs, McTag! And you have given me such itchy feet!
Thank you for all these kind comments.
It was a pleasure to take the snaps of such a vast, varied and ever-changing subject, India. At first, I did not feel comfortable photographing people, feeling it to be too much of an intrusion and perhaps a touch voyeuristic, but later, when I was more used to the place, I would ask if it was okay to take a picture and most people were very happy for me to do that.
I'll put in a couple of examples of that...the men who manned the fast-food stall at VT Station, Mumbai, and some immaculately turned-out schoolchildren in Kochi.
I had bought a new big memory chip for my camera which was a bonus because I could just snap away to my heart's content, and it never got full.
Crucially however, at the big evening hindu festival we attended, which was maybe the best and most unusual photo-op of all, my batteries failed, and the ones I had bought as backup proved to be duds! So, a once-in-a-lifetime chance missed.
Still, maybe the elephants would have been enraged by the flash and trampled us to death. Phew, that was a narrow escape.
It was all marvellous!
A feature of Kerala and indeed elsewhere, the children going to school were all immaculately turned out- even from the poorest of homes this was so.
And this was taken at the END of the day! British kids, take note.
Sorry I did not frame this pic well- it was very bright, and I was hurried.
Ronald McDonald, eat your heart out...this is how fast food should be....
These guys were really pleased to be snapped at work, and whatever it was they were serving (Vinit, please?) was very popular and going like hot cakes.
The food stall at CST Station. (Victoria Terminus)

Its called Paav Bhaji (ummmmm My Favorite) .... (Bread and thick curry of (plenty of smashed) vegetables with special Masalas). The RED color to the Bhaji is natural due to content of Tomatoes in it.
