Found: 1 very old noodle. About 4000 years old. This is supposed to finally settle the debate about where, if not when, noodles were first developed. Italians don't ever believe me when I tell them that pasta came first from china. Ironically, this noodle comes from a site called the Pompei of china because the residents were in the act of fleeing when they were entombed by some sort of natural disaster. BBC
For some reason I always had the idea Marco Polo brought pasta from China to Europe. Probably one of those silly urban myths I can't shake off

Hopefully they don't find you, Jane....
Goodfielder, now I need to go look up marco polo. So far as I know, he was a blind guy who roamed around in pools trying to tag fellow swimmers.

I remember being taught <when? where? why?> about noodles originating in China.
I've been reading the Diaries of Marco Polo for about 3 years now. Good travelling companion.
Went to a cool concert once, which followed the music Marco Polo would have heard on his travels.
I haven't got to the part where he eats noodles, yet.

Why is it that Italians don't get that pasta and pizza weren't originally italian anymore than french fries are french.

I should give a link to this thread to Raphillon - he lives in Rome and is very knowledgeable and helpful. I'll do that..
Beth, even though I haven't actually read the travels of Marco Polo yet, I like the edition of the book, very pretty little thing..

You know.... perhaps I am placing too much weight on the few italians I know - especially HM#1. She seems to have lived in a little bubble. Her younger cousin who is hear learning english for a few months knows more about italian culture and policy than HM#1 does.

Hmmm, where did wheat start... well, presumably it was natural somewhere.. maybe the good old tigris and euphrates. (On that, don't get me started.)
