This thread stems from one I saw about Bansky a few weeks ago.
Bansky Art
Has anyone here tried stencil art?
I've tried it maybe three times, with limited resources. Pictures coming very soon.
Here's a site that gives you a tutorial if you need insight and would like to try it. . .
Stencil Art Tutorial
Bansky's art work is stenciled? How disappointing.
He creates the stencil's himself. But yes it is stenciled. To me, it doesn't take away from his work in the least bit. The best thing about his work is how he has created such a reputation for himself, and he seems to never get caught.
So what do you call his brand of art? It's not graffiti, and it does not seem to fit murals or does it? Just stenciled art?
That's a good question. I have no idea what to call it.
I suppose you could call it a stencil art revolution.
Although some of what he does is what we think of as graffiti. Only some of his designs are stenciled.
Some of his may be stencil based, but he then makes changes. I'm not really sure of all of his techniques.
disappointing?
i don't see why that'd be disappointing, cutting a *good* stencil is very difficult and requires a lot of skill.
It sure does, especially at the scale that he does. Some of those stencils are huge.
