And how did I get it in the first place? Confused

I've tried removing it with Spybot & Adaware, but it keeps returning!

Just FYI, A2k was all I had open, and a Winfixer ad popped up, in A2k colour.

I have no idea if it was from crap on my computer, or if there is a chance it was from here, so I am letting you know.

Off to scan my computer....

Winfixer is a spyware application. I'd make sure to scan with Windows Anti-Spyware (BETA but one of the best) and AdAware.

I have adaware'd mine, and it just popped up for the first THREE times since I scanned etc just as I was gathering these quotes for you!!!

Previously, I had been on A2k tonight with no problem.

Anyhoo, I am sure Timber or someone will soon be by.

I am gonna try the Windows Beta thingy.

It is weird, isn't it? Mine REALLY looks like an official, proper A2k announcement. It must be designed to pick up on the "look" of the site it pops up on????????

Mine looked like a Microsoft announcement! Confused

I've removed it (for the time being?) by deleting the link from my "history" list & by deleting the links (about 3) from my Temporary Internet file. But I'll bet the bugger's back in no time! Evil or Very Mad

Ha! Clever little bugger, eh?

Dammit, it seems (despite having purchased my computer perfectly legitimately) that I do NOT have a "genuine" windows and therefore cannot access the beta spyware remover.

Myadaware sure dinna work, either, though I will try it again.

Interestingly, the damn polups only started again when I clicked into THIS thread, Msolga!

(To make things even more "interesting) A2K is playing up something shocking: Amazing stretched page 1 of the"search" list, a "critical error" & now, when I clicked "next" on this thread: got that "no such thread exists/maybe it's been moved to another spot" message.
Momma mia! Shocked

It is extra nasty yuckware, Msolga!

Don't go near it!!!!

Well, this is a fine to do.

Removed nasty bits of it with Adaware, AND Spybot, and it is popping up more than ever.

I hope someone with new ideas comes along, cos I can't use the Windows tool Craven recommended.

I tink this is something to do with a file or program called New.net (newDotnet) or possibly Mywebsearch. I had it and got rid of it/them following timbers "do this first" threads but needed to do it for each user account.

Here is Timber's yuckware removal thread, Msolga.

I just ran the Windows scanner program, amd it found no malicious software.

Grrrr

... but seriously <shaking head & rolling eyes> who would even consider doing business with a company that causes so much inconvenience in the marketing of its "product"?

Thanks for the offer, timber, but being a true Luddite I have no idea of what a HJT is! Embarrassed Never mind, the problem appears to have vanished, so I'll leave it for now. (touching wood again)

A question, though: The Winfixer 2005 ad. (at the top of this thread during "the troubles") Could that have anything to do with the problems that occurred? Was it legit. advertising on this forum & could it have had anything to do with the glitches that occurred? (No need to go into technical details, I'm just curious. Very Happy )
