clicking in. We have a fierce Nor'wester going on here. In a month of windy days, this is the worst yet. I don't know which way it's going, but if it runs into Wilma, we may have another "Perfect Storm".

pwayfarer, baton down the hatches!!! Please be safe and take good care during the next few days.

Ul ~ wonderful weather for the mountains, balmy days with cool evenings and leafs dropping everywhere - great mulch for next spring!

Danon, yep ~ "cozy" a good definition for the weather, and we've been very lucky so far with only a few light showers since storm season began. Keeping fingers, eyes, and toes crossed.

Sending good thoughts for our friends living in hurricane lanes.

I got all turned around yesterday; that was a nor'EASTER and it has disappeared.Cloudy but calm today. Hope Wilma gets down-graded - Pardon the pun, but it's still up in the air.

wayfarer, I hope that Wilma will calm down. From the map I saw it looks as if Alpha is following suit.
In a few days it might be fun to be at the Thunderhole in Bar Harbor, Maine.

Stradee- we are under Foehn condition- bright blue sky, sunshine and warm temps. We had 2 or three frosty nights last week, and now the leaves are glowing. First leaves are dancing in the warm wind, kids are collecting horse chestnuts and waddle through the dry leaves, throw them up into the air. A bright picture. Alas, no time to go out now.

Love this crisp, clear and clean smelling Autumn weather.

wayfarer, we will keep a lookout for you.

ul,
When you mentioned Thunder Hole and Bar (Harbor) - My first thought was BEER! Then I found out that the original "Thunder Hole" is a tidal cavern which at times shoots water 40 feet into the air. Well, not to be left high and dry - I found this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Fall is a painter- beautiful colors. The rooks are back . About 20 are sitting on the tree I can see over the roof top across the street. Looks like a family reunion, the noise they make is similar to party. In that tree lives a family of rooks all summer - immigrants, I guess. And now they meet the rest of the clan. I love these birds.

Latest of Wilma:

Wilma and New England
Today and tonight, Wilma will dramatically affect New England's weather. A separate powerful Nor'easter storm is developing next to the coast of New England, and moisture feeding back from Wilma into the Nor'easter will drench much of Rhode Island, southeast Massachusetts, and surrounding areas with 2 - 4 inches of rain. In the northern portions of Maine and New Hampshire, the precipitation will come as snow, and reach 6 - 8 inches depth. Snowfall amounts in the Adirondacks will exceed 12 inches, and heavy snow of six inches has already been reported in the Laurel Highlands east of Pittsburgh.

Winds from the combined Nor'easter/Wilma storm will reach sustained levels of 40 - 50 mph over the waters near Cape Cod, and bring wind gusts of 50 mph to New York City, Providence, and Boston. A storm surge of 3.5 feet with 26 foot waves is expected to cause moderate flooding along the coast of southeast Massachusetts, similar to what was experienced with the blizzard of December 2003. Wilma and the Nor'easter will merge on Wednesday, bringing Nova Scotia and Newfoundland tropical storm force winds, heavy rain, and coastal flooding. New England residents, take heart: the
second Nor'easter the computer models were predicting for Sunday now appears to be a non-threat. Yes, the same computer models that have trouble with long range hurricane forecasts also do poorly on winter storms sometimes!

Take care!

Hi MA, You are most welcome. I can just see our early ancestors - the lady of the cave saying to her hunter, "See that shade of red? Go where ever you disappear to every day and bring me some so I can dye this skin for the baby."

Lovely photo,Danon. Just in case you didn't get this sweet URL from Tak, here it is:

Your leaves are there, Dan.
A heads up. I will be away in Milwaukee from Nov 1 till nov 9 at a conference about the music and life of three cultures in Andalusia from 675 until 1492. During that time, three cultures, Arabic, Christian and Jewish lived not only in peace and harmony, but in incredible creative synergy. The language was pretty much Arabic, since that was the language of poetry, and everybody was in love with it, and the cities were Cordoba, Granada and Toledo.
It is so relevant to our own time - I'm really excited.
