Hello,
I live in Los Angeles and how much salary is needed for a standard living cost.
I recently learned low-polygon 3d modeling. I've never had a steady job. I have a Bachelors Degree in Illustration. So far I've been offered 40K for a job in LA. It is quite lower than what I've thought.
Could anyone who knows a bit about game companies tell me how much would be a good salary to ask for?
Edit [Moderator]: Link removed . Please take a look and tell me what would be a good offer for me to suggest. Thanks.
Hey Bubbleme80,
You can do a quick research online using google + salary standards. I've mostly been able to find jobs in your profession starting at $31,000 - $45,000. This is for experience of 2-4 years. With less than 2 years experience you should reasonably expect to get at least $30,000. Depending on your portfolio and scope of past work that figure could rise.
A common misconception in graphic arts of any kind as that once you have a degree you are set for a starting pay of $40+. The fact that you have been offered one at your first potentially steady job is a good sign. I wouldn't hesistate to take the offer so long as it's a job you wish to excell at, and that you have adequate chances for promotion and pay increases as you continue to improve and help the company.
(this opinion comes from someone with 7 years work epxerience with a BFA in Graphic Design. I am also in charge of the art and web departments at my company, total 15 people, including hiring.)
