Gweneth Paltrow is good to me.. and Holly Marie Combs (Charmed) and Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) are two of the most underated great actors in television in my opinion..

English-Rose, I haven't had or watched a TV for about 7 years...

To be honest with you, the last time I was around someone elses house (British) and they were watching something put across as deadly serious, I was falling around laughing at the acting ( no comment on your Gilmore Girls... although I don't know them, I'm sure they're great).

I liked G.P. in Shakespear in Love. I thought she made a pretty cute Romeo.

Wondered what men you'd put on your list?

I think there's a complexity to judging actors.

For sure. But, you always know straight away when you are not convinced by the actor.
I heard the director (I've forgotten his name) who directed The Last Samurai say that "a scene is only as good as the worst actor in it"
I suppose too, that we all have different tastes. Personally, I like it when I feel that the actor is not playing to the camera. When actors stand around posturing and posing, I'm immediately watching actors at work, and not buried in a story that's drawn me in.
Your post really made me think, BF...
Any actors out there under 40 that you'd put money on being up there with the very best one day?

I have always thought Colleen Dewhurst was a great character actor.

I'm sorry colorbook, but I don't know Colleen Dewhurst - although I'd heard the name (maybe because I've not got TV - or I'm in England)
Still, found you a picture of her.

Here, Colleen Dewhurst (Mrs. Scott) does a cameo role in The Last Run, starring her husband.

Johnny Depp yeah, very powerful. I first saw him in Platoon - apparently Oliver Stone told him he was going to be a very big star.

Here's a picture of him for LJ (for mentioning Jimmy)

Crazy to think that he's now 42 (born 1963)

Yeah, like 'em. Jack Nicholas was outstanding in One Flew Over The Cukoos Nest

I was glad to see Denzel Washington on your list, I think he is another very honest and talented actor.

Personally, I think one of the best actresses around today is Mary McDonnell (Dances with Wolves, Donnie Darko)
I think she's under used.
