Bob Denver, TV's Gilligan, dead at 70

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) ?- Bob Denver, whose portrayal of goofy first mate Gilligan on the 1960s television show "Gilligan's Island," made him an iconic figure to generations of TV viewers, has died, his agent confirmed Tuesday. He was 70.

Denver, who underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery earlier this year, died at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in North Carolina, according to agent Mike Eisenstadt. Denver's death was first reported by "Entertainment Tonight."

I can't believe that he was 70. Where is time going???? Shocked

Well, considering he played Maynard before I started high school, I guess I'm not too surprised that he was 70. But sad to hear he died, especially because it sounds like he was a stand-up guy.

I'll always remember him as Maynard--he was the first TV character who really spoke to me...

Of course this begs the two questions that have yet to be answered by civilized society:

1) Who's hotter? Ginger or Marianne?

2) If the Professor could build a nuclear reactor out of coconut shells, why the Hell couldn't they make a raft?

Sadly, the keeper of that sacred knowledge has passed away.

For those who want an imaginative reading experience, may I suggest: "Gilligan's Wake" by Tom Carson. While it doesn't answer Skwerl X's questions, it's a lot of fun and a great way to remember Maynard, Gilligan (and all the rest)...

Will there ever be re-runs of that particular show? I'd like to watch an episode, just so I could understand this thread better.

Ah, poor baby. You will have to spend time in bed with a woman.
I'm sure you are up to the sacrifice.

Gus, you should apply for the role of the ship captain. But you would have to give up your pitch fork.

Wait a minute, what am I thinking. A devilish ship captain would be perfect. Twisted Evil

Seeing Maynard and Dobie together in the Corpus Christi annual parade was one of the highlights of that period in my life. At the time, I told myself that, loveable as Denver may be, he could not possibly gat another job acting after The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.
