One of the founding principles of Christianity is the belief that God is perfect being, but God must be sadist to watch 6 million people burnt at the stake with green wood. God could have intervened at any time, but he didn't. You can't resolve those two positions, either he is perfect or he is sadist.
Christianity borrowed the human sacrifice from earlier religions. The concept of an angry god that needed to be appeased was pretty much accepted. They say man was created in the image of God, but it was God that was created in the image of man. Who is angry? Man is often angry. It is called projection. God was created by projections of man.
A woman I know asked me if I believed in love at first sight. I told her I did not. The best explanation I know is that each of us carries an idealized image of mate within us. When we meet someone that we are attracted to, we begin to project our image of our ideal mate on that person. The problem is that we are falling in love with our projection. When reality hits it hits hard, and we realize that projection conflicts with reality and the other person may be far from idealized mate This causes many divorces.
This is what happens in religion people project their image of an ideal God onto to whatever God that is available but since all gods are imaginary, they can never be resolved with reality.
@Zardoz,
Jehovah is the true living God-he alone. He is about to show this world-he offers life everlasting in perfection to his followers. We all must choose.
